Re: Aryan's 73 Mustang
I have a 750 Vac/ Sec/ that I'm going to put on my 33. I thought about trying it on the Stang but wasn't sure it would help. I'd love to get a 750 double pumper for it but those are getting pricey these days.

I have read several times that vacuum secondaries work well with automatics but I prefer mechanical secondaries myself. As far as prices go, I would hate to pay what they get for a new carb without knowing EXACTLY what I need. Too pricey of an experiment for me.

After I get everything else running right I may try the carb. It just has too many gremlins right now.TurboPinto wrote:RebStew wrote:I have a 750 Vac/ Sec/ that I'm going to put on my 33. Hopefully this new box of toys that Aryan opened will fix some of it.

That's a trip isn't it? That is a GM HEI with a Ford shank and gears. It will fit right in the 302.JRiggs wrote:that hei, looks just like the one i bought for the cutlass.

Re: Aryan's 73 Mustang
Digging up more history on the Mustang. I just talked to another guy that owned the car years ago. He got the car for his son to start racing and tamed down a Clevland to run in the 12 for his son. He ended up trading it off for a Comet that he had before. He wasn't too sure about the cars history before he had it but he said he didn't build it that it was built when he bought it. I was asking him about the frame and traction ?? bars. He said the traction devices are simular to what they put on the Thunder Bolts way back when..

Re: Aryan's 73 Mustang
I stabbed the HEI down in the engine and managed to get a GM alternator mounted on the block. At least I can get 13 volts to run the car down the track and not the 7 or 8 volts it had before when all the electronics where on.

Re: Aryan's 73 Mustang
If this 302 pops then it will more than likely get a 60 over 350 I have sitting here. I'm just using the best parts to get the job done. GM HEI has a ton of benifit over the later model Ford stuff. One wire hook up and it's ready to go. No bundle of wires and an extra brain box like a Ford. And the way this GM unit is set up it throws more spark and I could take it well over 7500 RPM's, Not that I evere should.CustomCabby wrote:My heart aches with all this inter-racial stuff going on!!! The Alternator is in the same boat. Jump the ignitor wire from the plug to the back of the charging lug on the back and then run one wire to the + side. One wire hookup and you are done and again, some may disagree but I feel the GM unit will out charge the Ford unit.

Re: Aryan's 73 Mustang
There is no way out of it to think this 302 will last. I tried to blow it up on the second run last week. If it make it through the season and it gets time to put it up for winter will be when it happens. I'll keep bumping the NOS up till it pops. I think my kit goes up to 350 HP That should do the trick.
On a side note I'm looking for a good set of heads. If anyone see's a good deal on a set of SBC heads that flow 230

He doesn't care. He wants to see air under the front tires is all he wants. 350 shot of juice off the line should do it. That or blow the intake through the hood.CustomCabby wrote:And uh.... what does Aryan have to say about you trying to blow up his motor??? LOL!!!

Re: Aryan's 73 Mustang
Here a little better look at the forced air breather I rigged up to catch the air from the scoop. A little crude but it works. I also ran a new fuel line to clear the HEI and to get the nitrous set up right.

Re: Aryan's 73 Mustang
I started running the nitrouse system on the car. I bought a micro switch and it came with a really nice bracket. Problem with it is that it doesn't work. No matter where you put it or bend it, it doesn't work well. It could be made too but not without alot work.
I started thinking about it and remembered I had one of Jr's famous micro brackets. I came in and grabbed it and stuck it on the car. It was perfect. I Didn't even need to adjust the bend or anything. Right where it should be and works great! If you don't have one of these brackets you need to talk to Jr Ard and get one.

Re: Aryan's 73 Mustang
Spent some time tonight and fabbed up some scavenger pipes. I had alot of back preasure that blew oil out of the valve cover when I went through the traps at hi RPM Butch had a couple of the valves. I bought a peice of 6" gas pipe and cut it in two for the pipe and a set of Summit Racing 3" collectors. the collectors came with a nice set of aluminum gaskets too. 21 bucks seems like a good deal on them if anyone needs some. The gaskets are more than that when you buy the good ones.
Tossed the collector on the drill press, knock out a hole and stuck the pipe at a 45. Welded it all up and she's ready to put on. I want to put a 12" piece of pipe after this. I think it will help pull more with a little back preasure.

Re: Aryan's 73 Mustang
On Aryan's Stang they cut the entire wiring harness out of it. No lights other than a one wire they ran for night racing. You have to have at least one. I spent some time tonight getting the back lights all working. 1/4 panel lights work as well as all 4 taillight bulbs. My biggest achievement was getting the brake lights to work. Ford and their funny brake switches. It was a pain trying to see what was working and what wasn't. I ended up using the camera to see what lights worked. New wires from the pedal, bad pedal switches and dealing with bad grounds on a car that may have not had any lights for over 20 years was a pain. It took a while but I got her working. At least we can cruise it around a little now.
