Re: Scroungers Gasser Project
Good news everyone. Kenny called tonight. While the ground was froze early this morning he hooked on to the car and drug it out of the mud. It's now in a spot where we can get to it. If anyone wants to tag along we will be leaving here around 11:00 tomorrow, 1-1-14 to get the car. If you want to go be here at my house around 10:30. My car will be full and Randy's rollback will be filled so anyone that want to go will have to drive. It's about 30 minutes out AA Highway.

Re: Scroungers Gasser Project
That sign use to say Ken's Auto Parts
When I was a teenager I didn't have much money. I couldn't afford to buy new things. I spent most weekend scrounging through a junkyard in California, Kentucky for parts to build whatever hot rod I had. Through the years I wheeled and dealed with the owner, Kenny Shalk. I guess he knew I didn't have much money and would let me trade around stuff or make payments. Looking back on it I know now he more than likely didn't need any old junk car I had. I think he did it mostly because he knew I didn't have the cash to buy stuff all the time. We become pretty close friends through the years. Sadly the junkyard close down some years ago. All the old 1940 and up cars were crushed A few weeks back I called him up to see how he was doing and we started talking about this gasser project the club was wanting to do. He told me he had a 41 left and if the club was wanting to build a gasser out of it he would donate it to the club. We took him up on his offer. It's not what one would think of as a gasser but we are going to fix that.

Re: Scroungers Gasser Project
The car was full of stuff. It has a ton of chrome in it. Randy and me went through it all. I think it's only missing a couple pieces. Back fender and deck lid was also inside. We ripped the seat out and all the stuff inside to see what we had to work with.
The headlights on this car are the coolest headlights I have ever seen. Sad part is they were missing off the car other than one bucket. Randy started digging and found one.

Hey it's a race car, think how much lighter it is now. Thanks to all who spent their morning getting her home.

Re: Scroungers Gasser Project
Anyone can stop by whenever they want to but we need to pick a day to get a group of guys up here to talk about what direction to go with this car. It should be interesting. Anyone have any thoughts on when they want to have the first unofficial gasser meeting?

Friday is fine with me. Anyone else? We may want to check out the weather. Some said it's getting ready to snow. I haven't looked.
