Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
Thought I'd start a build log for the car. Today, 11-08-07 Scroungers Car Club bought this 64 Falcon as a project to get us out of the garage and on the track. it doesn't look like much, but it will. hopefully it will be finished before spring and we can see some track time as soon as the cold weather breaks.
this is how it was bought.

Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
today started early for me. I worked out a deal with Steve Vickers brother to tow the car over to my garage. it was easier than trying to get this thing with my dolly. we had a time freeing it from it's resting spot that it been in for a few years. little tugging and dragging but we ended up hooked to the truck.

Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
I closed the door and went to eat lunch with the Vickers brothers and another friend. on the way back I started making calls. I ask Jonathan when he was going to be home. he has my cherry picker locked up in his garage. stopped by Dennis's house and then talked to Ronnie. I figured we would try to get something done with the car. Jonathan didn't get home till late. I figured we would have the 170 inch motor and auto trans loose and ready to pull by the time Jonathan got home to open his garage to get the picker. the ball started rolling and we couldn't wait for Jonathan.
dropped the tie rod end and shoved the front end out of the way. unbolted everything dropped it on the ground and raise the car up. little pulling and out from under the bird came the engine and trans.

Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
I asked Dennis to move the engine to the other side of the garage so here he is trying to get it up.
the engine didn't take long so we started on the rest of the car.
Elsie helping her pops, Ronnie out. she was taking the frame mounts loose.

.
.
so for the first day of having the car in our possesion we did okay. in less than an hour, we took off the hubcaps, hood, engine & trans, front and back seat, front bumper, hood latch, front suspension and clean out all the extra parts that came with the car.
talk of moving the car to Burlington to start on the front axel work came up today. hopefully Ryan can get his stuff done he's working on and we will move it soon. he's been painting cars the last couple day.

11-11-07 Sunday morning. Ryan calls and by noon the car is hooked again and on its way to his house. Jonathan, Corey and I tried to keep up with Ryan but that truck must be fast. lol it took some time to catch up to him.

Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
I would have been faster but the guy that strapped the driverside down was slacking so I could only do 65/70 since I only had one tiedown holding it to the dolly
Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
it was funny watching it go down the road. driver side rear was going nuts. guess it has a bad tire or a bent axel. it was hopping all over the place. figured if it was a bad tire it would blow soon. she hung in there for the tow though.
we got her in the garage and before I left one thing lead to another and we ended up going up the street and getting the front end.
before i knew it the car was pulled back out and the tape measure was being used.

Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
I ended up taking Corey and Jonathan home and by the time I got back Ferrell and Ryan had the front end off and the rest of the suspension. within a few minutes out came the cutting torch and the cut off wheel and things were happening.

DAMN I"M FAT.... Not for long going to the GYM starting tommorow...lol
Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
here is the start of the mock up. I stopped at the store and bought some perches but Ryans smooth hands cut the old ones off and they was reuseable. we just need to weld them a few inches over. stuck it all together and got it close to where it will sit. you can see it starting to come together.
we made a cardboard template for our rear brackets. it turned out pretty good.
here Ryan is seeing if the template works on both sides of the frame.
we are good to go and next comes the rear spring brackets. it was getting late so we cleaned up and closed up the garage for the night. not bad for a days work

Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
Well not as much progress as hoped for, I had other thinks on my plate today, but I did use the template and made 2 rear solid mount spring hangers...I hope to get the frame and misc. sheet metal that was cut off removed tommorow morning/afternoon... I will be starting around 9 am if anybody is free or wants to stop by....I guess surgery does have it benefits....Ryan
Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
Got the inside of the engine compartment where the shock towers were cleaned up, and the driverside rear hangers ground and cleaned and clamped in place...coming along well for the day..
Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
driverside inner fenderwell and frame rail cleaned up from the removal of shock tower
1 pair of solid mount spring shackles for the rear of the driverside spring.
spring shackle sitting in place on driverside outside frame rail. These are made out of 1/4" plate steel and will be welded to the box frame of the car.
Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
wow, that frame rail clean up good where the shock tower was.
I scored a matching set of Ford rims with tires to use on the front for mock up and to pull it around with. Thanks to Dennis for the loan of the rims. later we will be buy some for the rims that Ryan found

Re: Scroungers C.C. 1964 Falcon Drag Car
You planning on Steel rims or some sort of mag or racing rim? I got some old 15" steel rims that are pre disc brakes. I think they're 15 x 5.5. Stock 50's Ford rims. I got a stack about chest High. Also got 2 old Cragar style 14 x 7 reversed. Let me know if you need them. Might be able to have Jeff deliver when he comes down that way for romance. LOL
