How close does the perches on the Lincoln come to lining up? Are ya planning on using an adjustable proportioning valve or the one from the Lincoln or don't you have to use one since you'll have discs all the way around. Also, do ya use the Lincoln master cylinder or did you already post about using some other type when you were working on the engine bay? I would have thought that the Lincoln would be a little on the wide side. Those old mid 50's cars don't have much tire room in the back. Junkyard Jeff has a Maverick in his Sunliner and we had to let the air out of the tires last nite to get them out of the back fenders. I think he's only got about 7" wide rims if that. I know my old Merc had a bit more room in the back once I put the Maverick assembly in. I'm not sure but I thought Truckster posted something with all the widths on here someplace. Well I've managed to weaste enough time.....no I can go home from work.

I thought you logged in at work. From face of axle to face of axle it is 1" wider than the stock rear end. I'm gambling that 1/2" is on each side is something I can work with. The Lincoln used a four link and bags for rear suspension so there are no perches to work with. Yea, I'm a glutton for punishment. I'll have to salvage them from the old rear end or build my own. Thinking that's what I'll do and build in pemanent lowering blocks. The proportioning valve I still need to figure out. I was planning to use a Granada or Maverick M/C and valve when I was still going with drums on the back. The Lincoln has ABS so I need to figure out how that effects things. Don't know if I can use the Lincoln M/C and valve. It might be part of the ABS control? I also need to figure out the parking brake. I knows that some folks calls it an emergency brake but I calls it a parkin' brake. I had a Corvair with a Power-Glide and no Park in the tranny. It was a PARKING brake. pig

I haven't had a lot of time to do anything this week other than go get the rear end. Work sure interfers with what I really want to do. Razz

I'm counting on you guys to offer more advice than I can use. cheers

Were y'all jacking the body or the axle? I had the axle sitting on the stands so I could work on the bottom of the car. I wanted to pull one of the back wheels off and wound up having to jack up the body to get the wheel out of the fender and that is with the stock axle and springs. scratch

We had the jack stands under the frame so the axle was suspended. Granted it's got lower springs in the rear but that wouldn't keep it that much higher. Only maybe a couple of inches. The Merc does have a little more room I think due to the way the body bulges out. You might have to trim the inner lip on the back fenders. Are ya planning on running skirts? If so, you might want to run some of the fiberglass bubble ones. You can get them to come really close to the same angle as the that chrome piece on the side. They look pretty cool.

Still debating the skirts. Sometimes I look at them and think they are too cool and other times I just don't know. Crazy, huh?

Nope.........I'm the same way. There were a few guys that had skirts and white walls when I was a kid but we were the first with the black walls and chrome rims where I was from. None of us had skirts or white walls or hub caps. I've tried to follow the custom rules laid down by the merc owners in the know. I have skirts and 57 Caddie hub caps (a must for old Mercs) and plan to get wide whites. I never had hub caps or white walls of any kind until I got my old junk two door post Merc 20 years ago. I didn't have the skirts (the wheel openings weren't that good) but had white walls and Cad hub caps. I got a set of Lincoln caps I want to try with bullits on them either that or Lancer spinners on my Caddies. I guess this is how you get tons of pages for a build log.

[quote="Arieldouglas"]What is this? Kick Riggs day?

I can take the kicks coming from rebstew. For 7 straight years or so i seen his bald ugly (BEEP) more times then i like to mention. We've played pranks on each other i dont know how many times. one time i found an extra large set of granny painties in the car, wife said that they wasnt hers, and i'm a one woman man, so they was either hers or her moms (we lived abover her) I took them extra large painties and put them in stewarts truck oh ill never forget that day. Another time i was sitting on the porch in a chair leaning back the chair broke and mr. president william stewart sat on his porch and laughed for hrs. :) We always take a jab at each other its part of the brotherhood.

But when someone that hardly knows you and prolly only seen or talked to a handfull of times kicks ya it is a kick in the balls. i could go on and on but i dont have the time......................

You can't do that with the new computerized cars. The boys from Columbus tried for years and couldn't get it to work. Man, if Jim Noble can't get it to light, it isn't going to light! There's too many sensors to foul up. Also, you can put the plugs about anyplace in the cannon. I like to keep mine back out of sight, I don't like all the wires showing. Some of the Indiana boys put them right out at the end. I started with mine about 10" back from the end and I think these are more like 8" from the end. Old Fred (god rest his soul) with the old blue Ford always said mine were out too far . He believed that they were easier to light if they were farther inboard. I'd like to see a few pictures of my friend Lamar's car shooting fire since the knows all the technical bull about it. It's real simple, gas plus spark equals fire. That's not too hard to understand and don't take a mountain of explaining. Now back to the Big M...................
