Amy's wagon
I had that happen to me one time, but I caught it before the tire came off. I had to jack it up, and take a lug from each of the other tires to get it back home. A weird feeling. That happened to my dad and mom one time, too. They were in the process of moving. Dad had emphasyma at the time and mom was driving with a trailer in tow. The wheel came off the trailer and went past the car. It scared my dad so bad that he ended up in the hospital over it. I know it is possible for lugs to work loose, but that sounds like it is happening quite a bit up there.

Re: Amy's 57 210 wagon
The wagon is going to be run alot this summer and Amy wants some tunes for cruising. You would think that there would be all kinds of room for speakers in this thing but there is not. We started with the front speakers. After looking around it was either in the doors or in the kickers panels. I don't like the looks of speakers stuck in the doors so the kickers it was. You know we could not get off easy. The kicker panels have steel behind them and it goes into the cowl section. Cutting the inner panels to let the back of the speaker in would allow water in the car. So we had to make some kickers.
This is what we started with. That is about 100 year old dresser.
Card board for a template.
cut, cut, and more cutting to get it to fit.

We used the bottom of the drawers for the base.
Few cuts with a saw and you have your base.

Moving on to the speaker mounts. The top was used for the mounts. She had to drill a few holes to get the saw blade in
Two circle had to be cut for each speaker.
Figure out where you want the speaker to go.
Make a couple of legs to raise the speaker.
Make sure the speaker doesn't bottom out on your base.

Re: Amy's 57 210 wagon
I wish I had more pics of this but it took both of us to get this part done. Take an old t-shirt and cut it to fit over the wood base. Stretch it over the wood as tight as you can get it and WITHOUT wrinkles. While someone stretches it have someone else staple it with a staple gun from the back.
Here's what it should look like so far.
Next get out the fiberglass resin and brush it on the shirt. Go fast but get it all covered.
Cut your matting so it will lay flat. If you try to use big pieces it will have wrinkles.
overlap the matting and fold it under the base. when you have it all done let it set up just a bit but not dry! and brush on the rest of the gel coat. brush out and smooth it out the best you can. get all the air bubles out from under the matting.

Re: Amy's 57 210 wagon
Here it is with the top coat of resin on it.
When it dries you can sand the hi spots down. DO NOT go into the matting.
It will look like this.
On to filling in the low spots. A better 'glass man may not have to use mud but it's faster and easier for me. Since AJ did the nasty work I slung some mud. sand it and smooth it out.

A little paint so you don't get grease and fingerprints on the fresh glass and mud work. After the final fitting you can prep, primer and paint to match your interior.
I have to make some type of trim at the front so it looks right but you get the idea. Now we have to start again and do the drivers side.

Re: Amy's 57 210 wagon
whoever said that a Buick grille was almost a bolt in needs to be shot. This was a pain in the rear. Two days of cutting and grinding to get in to fit.
Here's Corey getting out the old busted grill.
I would have left it alone but the grille bar and the grille was busted up. After reading everything I could find on the swap it was made clear that it's easier to cut the splash pan than to cut the bottom of the grille.
I broke my electric sheers on the splash pan. I wasn't a happy camper!

Re: Amy's 57 210 wagon
The bottom of the grille is not bolted together yet. After I do that there won't be a gap in the middle. I still need to trim the latch to let the hood close right and bolt the grille in but you get the idea.

It looks good! Always have to like the direct "bolt-on" items.

It's on it's way to being a custom. Or is that a kustom? Whichever it is, I like it.
Re: Amy's 57 210 wagon
Love that grille! Always wanted one, but they are hard to find. Should have called me, I've got an article in one of my old Barris Customs books that shows a step by step on how to install. But, that's part of the fun, learning and doing and standing back and saying to yourself: Yeah, I Did That! Are the hood rockets next? I've got articles on that too.

She loves the rockets. I will just have them replaces with new shiny chrome if it gets a spiffy paint job.Rodshop57 wrote:Love that grille! Always wanted one, but they are hard to find.
