1987 Olds Cutlass
As a child I grew living with my dad and step mom. I saw my real mom every other weekend. She had a friend Richard Fields aka Buckethead. He was a black gentleman and old enough to be my father. I was 7 when i first met him. My mother and I hid him for 11 yrs. He was my best friend. All that time he had a sweet cutlass. In 1998 he came to me and he was going to give me the car. Now how was i going to explain to my dad that a black gentleman was going to give me a car. Well that didnt go over to well. So it was bought for me as a graduation present. So i took it over. Had the windows tinted. There was about four of us that ran around with a cutlass. 3 of us decided that we would put stickers on the back window it said TRU PLAYER. what the hell was i thinking?? So i had a few different chicks chasing me and one of them took a key and keyed the car from taillight to headlight. Man what a scratch. so i started to do body work also at that time I was deep into lowrider magazines. so i went to cool cars in louisville and picked up some 13x7 crown wire wheels. boy what another mistake. then a friend of mine and myself decided to lower the car. we heated the springs. dam what another mistake. So now the car is in primer sitten on 13 x 7 and was so low i couldnt go over speed bumps. and i lived in a trailer park with speed bumps. lol.... Well after constant wheel bearings going out i decided to take those wheels off and put my rallies back on. The motor blew and it sat. The car had so much centamental value it was unreal. I got an 84 when the motor blew up in the 85. Then the car was given away and is probably my new refrigator now. So since then all i keep thinking about it getting another cutty.

Re: 1987 Olds Cutlass
that white one is crazy looking not sure if i like it or not...
but this is the one i bought today. its the same color as the 85 i got from my friend richard. the 85 even had the same chrome down the sides.
its sweet.
body has only 103k. the motor alone has about 90k. thats what the owner say..
only thing id like to do to is right now is rims and a good stereo system...
it needs some body work.

Best hood Olds ever came out with. Too bad they stole the idea from the Formula Firebird... JK Riggs. It would be hard to find one and if you did I'd say the price would be through the roof.

Re: 1987 Olds Cutlass
That's not as bad as I thought it would be. I have a formula hood if you want to buy it and mold the scoops to your hood,,

I've seen wonders done with some window caulk, that silver tape that I use on all my projects, and sheet metal screw's... Give it a shot!
A little ounce and a half mat, resin, organic peroxide, PVA poly vinyl alcohol, and some mold release will go a long way...

Re: 1987 Olds Cutlass
i cant have a car without having a decent sound system. for the time being i put in a pioneer tape player that ive had 13 years. they wire harness needs to be replaced but the radio has done its duty. so xychowraith stopped bye about a month or so and gave me a panasonic cd player. but it didnt have a wire harness. i bought one on ebay and it got shipped to the house today. this pass weekend i went to richwood flea market and picked up some 3.5 inch speakers. the mounting depth was 1.7 inches. the speaker kept hitting the grille. out came the dremel tool and i cut the speaker grille cover open. i already have my big speakers in the trunk all i need to do now is replace the back deck speakers.

Re: 1987 Olds Cutlass
pulled the heavy (BEEP) intake manifold and carb... then pulled the valley pan gasket, found another thing wrong with it. when it rains it pours. the motor has been apart. when they put the motor back together they tightened the rocker arm to tight on the pushrod. the pushrod has broke the lifter and the lifter has rubbed a grove in the pushrod. so while its apart might as well fix it.. i know i know why build an olds motor. well the motor runs and ran good before.. so i bought a new small cam, lifters, all new pushrods. should be at the store waiting by now. was suppose to come in today saturday. I have the front end of the motor pulled apart, radiator is out, air conditioner and condser is out and will stay out, along with all of the unneccesarry brackets. tomorrow will be build up time. after i get the cam and lifters today ill soak the lifters in stp oil treatment over night and start tomorrow morning sometime...

Re: 1987 Olds Cutlass
The cam i bought from autozone never came inn, i waited till monday still never came inn, canceled the order and called summit, I asked summit for the hole kit (cam, lifters and timing set) he said it would take 22 days for it to come in because it was on back order i guess, went to comp cams, website said the same thing. I told summit ill take the cam, lifters and a summit double roll timing chain, within 2 days it was here.
Went to put the pushrods inn, tighten them down and they was 2 short, Autozone sold me the wrong ones. Went back to autozone got my money back, went to advance and had to order them, next morning they came inn. Finially time to put the car back together. All back together and i see an antifreeze leak coming out of the radiator. I buy some radiator stop leak and it sealed the leak for now, but i havent ran the car long enough to see if i have any more issues. I do know that i have a loud squel coming from one of the belts. not sure which one. The alt. belt is tight and so is the power steering belt... I wonder if i could have them to tight...
