Re: 1954 Chevy Dead Sled
[To me this looks the best but my quarters are butchered. I'd have to reshape or find a set of 54 quarter tops to even get close to this form again.

Re: 1954 Chevy Dead Sled
Patch work and trim work on the two above is not perfect with what I'd do. I'm just wondering what the masses think of the form. Sloped or finned quarters?

Re: 1954 Chevy Dead Sled
Sloped but use the lights like in the fined 57 green one cadie style something like mid 80"s sedendeville french them in and french the 55 bumper also! I think it would look killer. The reason beinging i think they would make the quarters look flowed and with the roundness of everything else on the car it might just work.

Re: 1954 Chevy Dead Sled
I thought about the 57 fins and lights also, but to me they just don't fit with the round trunk of the 54. How about the sloped quarters with a set of 89 caddy tail lights running up and down.

Re: 1954 Chevy Dead Sled
I LIKE THE SLOPED LOOK TOO OR THE PONTIAC REAR LIGHTS. THE CADDIE LIGHTS ARE COOL BUT I GUESS I'VE SEEN THEM USED TOO MUCH. 54 MERC TAILLIGHTS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE QUARTER JUST ABOVE THE BUMPER WOULD BE COOL. I'VE SEEN ONE SOMEPLACE LIKE THAT AND I THINK I'VE GOT A PICTURE SOME WHERE AT HOME. IT'LL TAKE A WHILE TO FIND AND SCAN IT. IF YOUR THINKING OF A TAIL DRAGGER, THE SLOPED QUARTERS LOOK BEST. THE TAIL OF THAT MERC LOOKS PRETTY COOL, IT JUST NEEDS THE BUMPER CUT FOR THE EXHAUST TO RUN THRU. YA CAN'T LITE A FIRE WITHOUT THE EXHAUST EXITING FROM UNDER THE CAR SOMPLACE. lol

Re: 1954 Chevy Dead Sled
A lot of good idea. I like the slope better than the fins. No one really said much so I didn't think anyone liked them over the fins. As for the Cadi taillights???? I just can't. I guess it's my traditional side. I just don't like the looks unless they are in a slicked out street rod.

Re: 1954 Chevy Dead Sled
Here's one with the 57 fins.
Ok I'll let up on the tail lights, but hows about ditching the whole roof and going with a carson top?
Can you tell I'm really good at finding lots of work for others to do?

37.95 +11.95 for the ride for a pair of lenses on egay, than just wire frame them in. I've seen your metal working skills, this would be a walk in the park for you sir.Reb Stew wrote:Those are really wild but again it comes down to price. I'd say that stuff goes for big $$$

This one uses two lenses per side.

Re: 1954 Chevy Dead Sled
The merc. lights don,t look bad for the price. Put that english wheel to use reb and make it happen anybody that can make a car with just a piece of a cowl should not have a problem with this:P

Re: 1954 Chevy Dead Sled
That's cheaper for those lights than I thought they would be.
Doug and I have been talking through PM's and he was talking about a Carson top. It's a good idea if I can't line this one up. Thanks for the post guys. It really get my gears turning.
I have the car outside with the rearend about half ripped out of it. I think I'm heading outside to see if my bones can handle another hour of cold concrete,

You guys are killing me. Thanks for the ego boost but I'm no tin bender. I'm just a hack that messes stuff up and then has to figure out how to fix it right. I wish I had the skills that you guys see.

I like the slope better than the fins also. Didn't someone on here have a set of cruiser skirts?
I saw an article somewhere about LED's that were flush with the paint and practically invisible till you turned them on. pretty cool! Yea, I know. If you can't go Caddy taillights, LED's are way, way out there.

Re: 1954 Chevy Dead Sled
lol The LED's may work if they were hidden until you turned them on. I like the smooth look. If I could get away with it I'd put lights hidden behind the bumper top and just use the back glow off the car body. Problem is that only works at night.Arieldouglas wrote: Yea, I know. Re: 1954 Chevy Dead Sled
I've seen some guys cut the rear bumper gaurds and put lights in them. Makes it a little hard to see because you're not looking there for brake luights.
Way back when guys made cruiser skirts out of VW roofs. I remember somebody in the neighborhood doing it when I was in Jr. High. (I think)
