There is no floor in the bed. Last night I welded in the braces and mounting points that will hold the bed. Hopefully I'll have some temp floor in it by tomorrow.

Having issues with the brakes now. Went from stopping good to nothing. I hate brake work.

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
Got the brakes lined out and it's stopping great. Now I have a popping sound when I take off. It's loud. Sounds like a U joint getting ready to fly apart. I messed around with the driveshaft and it seems fine. Yanked the back wheels off and checked the brakes, thinking maybe a spring or something had broke. NOTHING. I guess it's one of those deals where I'll drive it till it drops and whatever breaks was what's wrong

That black stuff is battery acid
With the Scroungers Pit Crew Corey's truck was up in running in no time. Jeff grabbed his jack and yank the battery out. Ronnie yanked his battery out of his car and they held the wires on the terminals to get the truck to start and then Joe taped the cables up to keep them from arcing out. We got lucking that the battery end broke off and not the starter.
We slammed the hood and drove the truck back some 30 miles running only off the charging system. Battery was laying in the bed of the truck.
Cratethis's Mustang got the worst of it. The acid blew back on the front of his 'Stang eating away the paint. I guess I owe him a flame job to cover it up one day. Even without a battery we were moving on. Out of 20 cars I don't think anyone kept up with me other than that Stang on the way back. We was bookin'!!

I think that rearend is cursed. I'm getting a popping sound when I pull away and I can't find it. Randy seems to think it's the spider gears.

If you take a long look from all directions, It's my belief the 3 window wins for appearance.

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
What to do, what to do. I built this truck for me. Not to sell. You know how it goes though. Money talks. I have been messing a little with it. Hooking up gauges, bought a new battery for it and a few odds and ends. The starter seemed to drag on it when it got hot so I put a new starter on it. I'm still looking for a rear end. The spider gears are clanking at hard turns. I was going to fix them but after thinking about it I wanted to ditch the 411 gears anyway. So I'm just going to swap a whole rear end when I can and get a 355 or a 308 gear in the back.
I was working on it today when I got a phone call. A guy offered me $9K for it as is. I won't lie and say I don't need the money. Taxes on the house are due as well as other bills. I would even have enough to pay off the note on the Toyota. You know how it goes. I'm really on the fence on this one. I don't think I will take it but man it hurts

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
If it were me, I would let him have it. I wanted to hold onto everything a couple of years ago. Finally realized I could get to all of them and some of them went down hill. You could always talk half the money and pay on taxes and other stuff and take the other half and buy another truck that was more together than the one you started with. It would be a little easier building it. Winter is coming and cruising season will be just about dead in the next two months or so. I've seen solid trucks out west for way less than half of what the guy offered and they were complete.

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
Thats tough one. Its easy to say that you wouldn't sell them but when some one is actually offering cash it becoums a lot harder. On one side you can always build anouther one but the flipside is would you actually want to start all over again.
