Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
Thanks. It would be on the road sooner rather than later but I'm broke. Seems like that's always a problem.herb73 wrote:LOOKS GREAT MAN. SHOULD BE OUT AND ABOUT SOON REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO IT

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
I went out early and tried to do something before the heat got too bad. I managed to get the bumper in place.
The gravel pan has a hanger welded to it for a front plate. I put an old tag on it but it looked huge on there. I drilled a couple holes in one of my dragger plates and bolted it on.
The bumper was a bit too glossy too. I scuffed it up with some sand paper.

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
Why the red letters? 'cause it's HOT! The bumper is on but I'm going to jack it up so I can weld in some mounts to the main part of the frame. Just to be safe. It got too hot. It was almost 100 degrees in the garage before I closed the doors. Tomorrow it suppose to be over 100. It's been a long time since we seen heat like this around here. Crazy..

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
I have been out there almost daily until this heat wave ran through. It's over 110 in the garage daily. I can't work in that kind of heat. The clouds rolled over today and I thought I'd get a little done. I open the garage doors to get the heat out and was was jacking the truck up when the rain storm blew in. Soaking me with driving rain as I laid on the floor in the garage. I can't win for loosing. At least the truck is up in the air. Time to weld on the running board mounts.

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
Bought some stuff for the truck today. Too hot to work but at least I can stock pile the parts I need. Spark plugs, wires, water pump and some more stuff. I found a custom built gas tank that will fit the truck like I want it too. He cut me a deal on it when he found out it was worth it to me to drive almost 3 hours to get it. It's used but should be perfect for what I need. If all goes well I'll be heading out in the morning to get it.

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
It's been too hot to get out there. I bought some bright headlights ad a floor dimmer today. I went to the junkyard this morning to get some pullies but they were closed for the 4th. I'm not sure I will be in there until Monday when they say the heat won't be so bad.

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
On the 5th I figured I would try to grab everything I needed from the junk yards. It was over 100 degrees but walking in a yard was better than in the garage where the temp was 10 degrees hotter.
I hit 5 junkyards in one day searching for stuff. One of the valve covers had a crush spot in it from pulling the engine. I bought the pullies and brackets for the engine. I found it. I found one sun visor, still on the look out for the other. I grabbed a piece of trim that holds the headliner in that I was missing, that was a good find. I found the nuts and chrome bezels that hold the wipers on the body. It was a good day. I froze a gal/ jug of water the night before. The ice was gone in no time resting in the hot car but it was still cold enough to guzzle when I'd get out of the yards.

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
Not much to take pics of. I degreased, sanded and cleaned up a bunch of parts so I could shoot some rattle can paint on them.
I got the drive shaft cut down but It still has to go in the truck. started putting the shifter in. Hopefully I'll get that done today.

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
2 cities and 3 store to find U Joint saddles for a S10 rearend. KOI had a guy older than me working the counter that didn't have a clue as to what I was talking about. He brings me a CV joint boot???? How in the world do you work for a parts store and don't know simple parts.
Long story short I got the driveshaft in.
Did a few odds and ends stuff. Nothing really to speak of.

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
Does that S10 have A/C sir?
Me: I need a set of rotors, and bearings for a 79 MonteCarlo.
Parts pro: Does that have air?
Me: Doesn't matter they're all the same.
Parts pro: I have to put in something.
Me: Put no.
Parts pro: Why would you buy a car without air?
Me: I didn't that's just what I need the parts from.
Part pro: what are you going to do with them?
Me: Put them on the new dropped spindels on my 55 Chevy.
Parts pro: Oh sir you can't do that, they won't fit. You would have to use rotors for that year car.
Me: Is there someone else here who can get me my parts.

Its getting hard to find a parts guy with pen and pad anymore. Don't get me wrong the computer is a great thing. I just miss the personal touch that was there.... Sitting on the stool explaining what you are working on and the person gets it!

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
We got a few hours in the garage today. Mostly cleaning. It needed it bad. Changed out the front rims before the old dry rotted ones burst. Put the bracket on for the trans kick down and a few other small things.
Amy cut up the Dakota gas tank that came with the truck. Garbage man won't take it unless it's cut in two.

Not sure. Still have to buy a carb and I'm broke. Still plenty to do like brake lines and such so maybe by the time I get some of the small stuff done I'll have the scratch for the carb.
