1962 Bel air 9 passenger station wagon
Just picked up a 62 chevy station wagon. Has the third row seat. Pretty solid old car. Has a little rust at the very bottom rear of one quater panels. Has a pretty good size dent in one quarter panel. Previous owner installed a new water pump, tires, shocks, belts, hoses and battery cables. Original paint and interior. 283 with a poerglide. I'm just going to cruise in. Maybe put some astro supremes on it. Also came with a carb kit and transmission filter. The car won't idle and looks like I'm going to have the carb rebuilt. I'll get pictures tomorrow.

Yeah another long roof family truckster. The boys saw the wagon the other day and asked when I was going to Wally World.

I've always wanted to do that. Wonder who I need to talk to. Never had the correct vehicle before.

Re: 1962 Bel air 9 passenger station wagon
I think the NHRA has some sort of rules or suggestions on how to do the push bar on the front. Ryan on here should know. He was in it last year. I think if ya get the front push bar setup right about all ya have to do is register. Seems there were some guide lines on NHRA's web site. I think they just want the wood push bar to be so big and so high. There's a lowered green wagon about like yours that's pushed dragsters @ BG and IRP. I don't know who he is but he's from up around here someplace. I ran with him on the way home a couple of years ago. If I can get down there next summer, I'd be more than tickled to crew for ya. That is REALLY a nice wagon. Love 62 Chevy wagons...the best looking wagon from Chevrolet in the 60's.

Re: 1962 Bel air 9 passenger station wagon
I looked on the internet and found some measurements. I think a metal frame and stained wood would be cool.
Dad and I started to do some checking to see why the car wouldn't evem idle. Had to keep it reved all the time. Some to find out that the distributor was way out of wack. Idles on its own now. The vaccum advance isn't working. The 283 still has a hesitation when you give it gas.

Re: 1962 Bel air 9 passenger station wagon
Got the arb back late this afternoon. The guy who built this handed me a top off a spray paint can and said "this is what I found inside." Looked like a bunch of paint chips. I could tell that no one has pulled the carb off before me for a long time. There were several big pieces. Going to install it tomorrow and move the wagon inside so I can get the back window working.

Hopefully the carb does okay. I tried to rebuild one, it ran worse by the time I was done. First and last one I tried.

Hey Jonathon,
Y'all coming to Oktoberfest Sunday? That wagon would be cool to have there.

If the body isn't worn out so that it leaks air in and gas out around the butterfly shaft; the biggest challenge is getting all the varnish out. Acetone and patience are good friends for this part. If the needle jet seats are screwed up though the screwing goes a long way. If all is good with the body, it is mostly a matter of adjustment. If you have vacum leaks no amount of carb work will help till they are cured. 'Course this is all about a daily driver not a performance build.

Re: 1962 Bel air 9 passenger station wagon
Got the carb back on today and it purs like a kitten. The front two studs that hold the varb were gone. I had to drill them out. I knew I had a trans leak somewhere. Thought it would be a trans gasket. It wouldn't be that easy. Fluid is coming out of a whole up front. Looks like it'll need a new front seal in the trans.

Drove the wagon to the transmission shop. Man does it drive different than any other chevys that I've drove. It'll tale some getting use to. Hoping I'll get it back in a couple of days.
