71 datsun 510 wagon
i bought this car a year ago as a daily driver after i wrecked my miata, and i really shouldn't have gotten it as a daily. the body wasnt it to bad shape but not great either and it didn't run well at all it gave me troubles the whole way home. A trip that was supposed to be a 4hr round trip there and back, turned into about 6hrs because of breaks not working engine cutting out and not starting. The car had been sitting for a while before i got ahold of it and it was in need of new everything replaceable lol, but the car has changed alot over the year and is still undergoing changes.
when i first got it
starting to fix things, the engine got a new fuel pump, fuel lines, filters, distributer cap, rotor button, plugs, plug wires, battery, battery cables, alternator, carb kit, valve cover seal, brakelines, rebuilt calipers, brake pads/shoes, rotors, custom collector pipe (the old one had rusted away and fell off while i was driving) and a cherry bomb. theres lots more but you get the general idea

Re: 71 datsun 510 wagon
painted the valve cover
shortly after rebuilding the carb i found set of su's with manifold to put on it.
then i bought some old circle track 13x10's, stretched some tires on them and put them on.
got a set of new wheels for the front aswell
old set
new set
theres alot of stuff that was done that i don't have pics for or lost. but i drove the wagon this way for a while then the engine started making bottomend noises so i took it to a parking lot and let it go out in style, by doing donuts and sliding it.

Re: 71 datsun 510 wagon
after the original engine blew up i bought a 92 nissan 240sx for $300 and drove it to the shop and stripped it down. almost all of the car has gotten used for the 510 and another datsun project i have.
parts car/victim
the 240 steering column in the 510
240 dash cut down to fit into 510
before
240 dash and console wrapped
engine
intake manifold, took apart cleaned it, removed the egr crap, and the butterfly valves in the runners
and the nightmare of wiring
this is what i removed that wasn't needed
ill try to get some pics of the finished harness tomorrow, and a few of the engine when i go get it from the shop and get it home.

Look at that twisted steal scrap metal in first pic.
I look at that and him and think how lucky he was with just a broke back.

Re: 71 datsun 510 wagon
heres the wiring harness after i pulled all of the wires out for the egr stuff and everything else that wasnt needed.
this is the fuse panel and the the relays for the starter, ecu, and fuel pump. i just cut the connectors off the car harness and ran them to the panel so i could disconnect from the fuse block easily, ill clean it up more once ive got it in the car and running
the intake is cleaned up, rewired, and reassembled and ready to go back on.

wirring in still messy
tilt steering colum from the 240sx next to the original column.
i had to switch the inner splined rod from the original column into the tilt column so it would fit.
the longer one with the u joint is for the 240 column
ready for engine
engine in
