Brake Bleeder Stuck
I had to rebuild a wheel chlinder on the Stylemaster due to the broken axle. I now have a brake bleeder that is stuck. I am not familiar and/or confident with these single reservoir systems. Is it safe to bleed the rebuilt wheel cylinder at the brake line in lieu of the bleeder in this situation? If not, any suggestions on loosening the bleeder?

Re: Brake Bleeder Stuck
I soaked them last night with PB Blaster, but was afraid to us heat because of the rubber seals in the wheel cylinders.

Re: Brake Bleeder Stuck
You don't have to use that much heat to soak it that far. If you have one of those mini torches they have a small flame you can direct the heat in a small area right at the base of where the threads are. It's a toss up if you will get it to come loose or break it. Sometimes we get lucky and she's comes loose. My record is about 50/50 If you break it bleed it at the line and see how it does.

How about that trans fluid and acetone concoction? Didn't someone say they tried it and it worked?

It works great! PB Blaster and most any other chemical is garbage anymore. Gotta make your own good stuff...

I haven't tried it yet. I did buy a bottle of acetone from my buddy a Nashville Chemical about two months ago. I'll probably wait till the Kroil runs out and I'm in a pinch.

PB BLASTER WORKED! Now I just need to find a useful foot to help with the bleeding.

I can run out there if you need me to. Maybe Saturday or Sunday if you want to bleed it.

Reb Stew, you and your family need to ride out to the house sometime. Currently, we have six cows, six horse, and a guy is delivering a pony tonight. Not to mention we have a 42+ acres to play on. It's a little different scenery than the west side that your used to.

I knew there had to be some horses up there.
Sami, I think one of Roller Coaster's horses has your name on it.

Nope, I am the first to admit that I am a rookie when it comes to wrenching alone. My father and I didn't do much together when I was young, due to his work schedule, but we did wrench together.

Re: Brake Bleeder Stuck
Maybe should be in the tech section but when I am by myself and need to bleed brakes I take a Coke (or Diet Dr Pepper) bottle and pour about an inch of brake fluid in it. Then take a piece of vacuum hose about two feet long and push one end on the bleeder and stick the other end in the bottle. Then crack open the bleeder and make sure the master cylinder is full. Then slowly pump the brakes to push the air out. The beauty is you can keep pouring the fluid from the Coke bottle back in the MC till you're sure you have all the air out.
Even if it sucks back it only sucks brake fluid. Since I am usually alone this is how I bleed brakes most of the time.

Re: Brake Bleeder Stuck
Harbor Freight and some others sell a self bleeder kit much like he's describing. I bought one and it's a charm to have when I work on brakes alone.
** Disclaimer ** - Not to be confused with the kits the Emo kids would buy at Pac-Sun or some other mall store that sold to the depressed black nail polish, black cloths wearing set. Those just consist of a razor blade and some crappy music on a CD

I'll have to add this to the tech section.
