Stewart's vacation, the good & the bad
Amy and myself have never been away from our kids more than a day. They do almost everything with us. Corey is almost 18 now so we planned a small vacation to check out a town down in Ky. We thought Corey would do okay watching the two little ones . We had no time limits or routes to take. We just wanted to get away and relax. We started towards Louisville, Ky. We was almost there when this Poncho came flying by us.
It was funny to see Randy's car that far down. You never know when you will see a fellow club member.

Re: Stewart's vacation, the good & the bad
We blasted through Louisville only taking note of the few cool building we seen from the highway.
Re: Stewart's vacation, the good & the bad
We was going to stay in Louisville,Ky when we first started talking about taking off. Instead we picked to get lost where we knew no one and no one knew us. A sleeping little town in the middle of no where.
Amy and myself have been wanting to move back out into the country and this was another chance to see what was out there. I had done some homework but you never know untill you spend a few days in a place to see what it's like.

So on a check list of what I want in a place to live what would it be?
1 Low crime area
2 Land, Enough property that we can shoot, ride dirt bikes, horses or whatever I want to do.
3 No city or Goverment red tape. If I want to build a 5 car garage then I can build what I want where I want!
4 Friendly people
5 Place to work or invest into the city to open up a shop of my choice.
6 It has to be hot rod friendly!
7 Overall just a slower pace of life. A place to put down roots and live the rest of our lives.

I'll let the pics speak for themselves. We was 10 miles away from where we was going when we started seeing old iron.

I dig the old truck and check out the gasser. It was set up just like our old club car. I wonder if that's it?
Re: Stewart's vacation, the good & the bad
We made it into the town that time forgot!

Our hotel was a 1950's style creep in and sleep deal. It reminds you of an old Rt. 66 hotel. Very cool and American owned!

The bathroom was small! It's hard to tell from the pics but look at the size of the stuff on the sink for a reference. The top of the sink was around 7" from the top of my knee. May not be bad for a small guy but over 200 pound man that is 6'2 doesn't do well. Sit sideways on the pot, stick you knee under the sink and right hand over and back to get the paper. I walked out and told Amy I can play the game Twister much better now.

Re: Stewart's vacation, the good & the bad
I stopped a cop and was talking to him about the crime rate and what he thought of the city. He smiles and said what crime. I had already checked the Goverment crime rate data base and I knew it was low. How low? Keys being left in peoples cars, doors unlocked like they were 30 years ago around here. Our hotel didn't even have an inside lock. How strange was it for me to sleep in a place with no dead bolt or at least a latch on the inside of our hotel door?
Re: Stewart's vacation, the good & the bad
New flat screen, fridge and microwave was in the room so it wasn't too bad.
Re: Stewart's vacation, the good & the bad
We didn't stay in the hotel room much. We was out looking at the town and trying to figure out if this is a place we would want to spend the rest of our lives in. Every road we took was full of old houses, cars or cool sites.

This Monte had a 4 speed in the floor!
There was a diner on Main St. I had to try. We parked and noticed that when the family comes to town even the dogs come with them. 3 in the bed and one in the cab.

Amy and I ordered different things. Both of our plates came out great. I'm picky about my food. I'd have to say this was the best place I have eaten in the last 10 years. Maybe more. Everyone was so friendly. All home made food. There was no grease in the burger and the Chicken was killer! Home made chips and more. Nice cuts of meat! Nothing like I've had at one of these little choke and pukes and better than most fancy places I have eaten at.
Amy got her burger and I had to take a picture of the heart shaped patty.

This place was nice. Leaving Happy Days we headed off to see what else was around.

I couldn't get a good pic of this house, trust me it was slick!
This is the library

Remember driving along and you run into an old junk yard full of cool stuff. It's been a long time for me and it was always off the beaten path. I feel I have a knack for finding old iron. It's not hard for me to do. Down there all you need to do is drive down a main drag and the stuff is in your face!
I've never seen this many 57 in one yard.

Re: Stewart's vacation, the good & the bad
As we sit in the car looking at the guard dog and all the "KEEP OUT "signs a younger guy pulls in and tells us to park in his driveway and take pics if we want. We drove on in and the guys walks up. Introduces himself as Kyle and ask how we are doing. He goes on telling us to walk on in the yard to check out the cars and takes as many pics as we want. I ask if anything was for sale. He looked at me and smiled and said everything is for sale. Part or cars!
As I said everyone down here is super friendly. Even the guard dog wanted us to pet him.
