Newport members..
Just wanted to let you know that the city of Newport is thinking of bringing back the Newport City Stickers for our cars. I was in a meeting where this was brought up. I voiced my concerns but I'm not sure if it will make a difference. It was $12.50 a car before so more than likely we are looking at 20 or 25 bucks per car this time to get one. I'm not too happy about this. Next meeting I have with the City Manager I will talk to him more about it. This was nothing but a money making bunch of crap before and I see it heading that way again. Remember the little meter maid that ran around giving out tickets? I can see that happening again. If you had friend or family show up at you house they would came out to a ticket for no city sticker even if they didn't live there. The way it was before if you were in town more than 3 days a week in Newport, even if you did not live there, they wanted you to buy a city sticker.

Re: Newport members..
They'd have to adopt an ordinance to do it & you have to have a first and second reading before there can be a vote by the elected officials.
One question is whether in the final analysis it actually does create revenue or is in fact a net revenue looser by the time you add the necessary personnel to distribute the stickers and enforce the ordinance. If it was such a good thing, why did they stop requiring city stickers?
Does Newport have a annual tax on motor vehicles? If they do, that should be all you should have to pay for the privilege of parking your car on the street you pay property tax and gas tax to maintain. That's right, every city gets a share of the KY gas tax based on the number of miles of roads/streets owned by the city. It comes from the rural secondary fund.
