Re: Butch Thompson's Nova
Rumor has it that Butch needs a Nova hood because the motor won't fit under there any longer. Anyone have one that he can cut a hole in?

Re: Butch Thompson's Nova
Well, I don't know how the police could say that per se a taller rim is or makes a vehicle dangerous or unsafe. Most states do have laws that prohibit aftermarket or non OE parts. They just rarely enforce them. All of our cars that have long tube headers are illegal in KY. According to the statutes, you cannot alter the exhaust. Again, they just don't enforce it.
Now, if they impounded those cars with the tall wheels because they look silly, then I'd have a hard time arguing that they're wrong, but to each his own.

Re: Butch Thompson's Nova
HAhahAhhahah...
I know maybe it's just me but I think it's funny. The Cadi isn't that bad but some of those ugly Donks need to be pulled off the road. Hack job cutting and rewelding a-arms from people like on Saratoga St. will end up causing a wreck. Cars that you have to have a step ladder to get into is just stupid and 9 out of 10 times they are funded by drug money. A simple wheel swap such as Johnny's , Butch's or even the Cadi isn't bad but those retards that jack the car as hi as they can and turn it into a 4X4 want to be needs their cars taken. If they are that retarded they don't need to be driving anyway.

I've seen plenty that are unsafe. I've been driving behind them and can't wait to get away. When they try and stop the wheel shake is awful!

Here is the follow up article...
http://www.wcpo.com/dpp/news/local_news/oversized-rims-could-kill-some-one%2C-police-say
I don't know this is necessarily a good thing. Yea, I'm not a fan of the big wheels either, but how they are going about this doesn't seem right.
Ohio doesn't have a safety check in order to have your car on the road. I lived in Virginia, and they do. It was a hassle. But it was an established law that was setup with a process and if you didn't take care of it you knew you were going to get a ticket at some point. If your car wasn't safe you didn't pass. They would tell you what you needed to fix in order to pass. If you didn't pass you couldn't go and get your current license plate tag.
Neither the people being stopped or the police spokes woman stated that the police saw the cars in question having a problem with control or were bouncing all over the place etc. They saw they had big rims and impounded the cars. And the guy got a ticket for things other than the large wheels. Now, if they pass a law that says no big rims on cars, then they can do it.
Just seems like it's big rims today... hood scoops, loud exhaust, lowered, raised, tinting, decal sticker in rear window etc will be next. Trust me... been there... that is how Virginia is. Your Car had to stay 100% stock. So the flowmaster mufflers that I put on the mustang are illegal in Virginia. If my mufflers had gone bad, or got a hole in one, I would have had to replace it with and OEM only muffler. The only way anyone can have loud exhaust (in Virigina) is if it was a special edition. Like a Roush Mustang or Z06 Vet. Even then they may still pull you over.
A guy I did car stuff with there had a Roush tuned Escort. He got pulled over for the Borla exhaust and it being lowered. Both of which came from the factory that way. He had to go to court, take the window sticker and brought other documentation to prove it rolled off the Ford factory line that way.
Yes, I want the roads to be safe. Yes people need to have safe cars on the roads. But if this is truly about safety, then how about all those junk trucks where the bed is totally over loaded held on only by rust get pulled over too? Or that little turd of a car you get stuck behind that the floor boards are riding on the rear axle with the muffler dragging the ground?

Re: Butch Thompson's Nova
The scary part is, these vehicles weren't impounded under a law against big wheels, they were impounded under the law that says
"No person shall drive or move or cause or knowingly permit to be driven or moved on any highway, any vehicle or combination of vehicles which is in such unsafe condition as to endanger any person. "
That means that when they run out of brothers to bleed for impound fees, they will look other places. For example.
That tunnel ram blocks your vision - UNSAFE
Thats just the first one that comes to mind. It's a vague law and could be interpetted any way they wish. I know it's a stretch but what if some officer (more like money collector these days) deems your street approved slicks to be a danger? It's enough to implement a stop where he can find other non-safe items.
All in all, it's not about safety, it's about bringing in revenue.

Re: Butch Thompson's Nova
It looks like there's something more than safety at issue here. When the police impound a car, they have the right to do a cursory search of the car to protect themselves. They may even be doing something as simple as walking a drug-sniffing dog around the car to see if the dog will react. If the dog does react, that gives them probable cause to do to tear the car apart.
This won't last long, because the ACLU or the Southern Poverty Law Center will sue Cincy and claim this is another form of profiling. It is also correct that the law is very vague and and absent any indication the car may be unsafe other than the big wheels, it adds up to BS. Now, if the car is lop sided or going down the road sideways or the wheels shimmy, well that's unsafe w/o even considering the wheels.
This doesn't quite pass the smell test. And it certainly could evolve into other obvious aftermarket car items that just might have a cintilla of a chance of being unsafe. We should all be concerned about this sort of SS Hitleresk style of behavior by law enforcement personnel.

Sorry to hijack your thread Butch.
Maybe the admin can move these couple posts into it's own thread. This is something to keep an eye on.
