Post by RsvBill June 21st 2008, 3:19 am

OK I have some simple questions.....

someone explaing gear to me?? heheeh

I have a rear end from an 85 Monte Carlo 273 gears. Waht do I need to do in order to get more out of this? Or should I reprase it as I want a higher gear meaning 4:11 ?? I want torque not highway useage.

:-)

If your going to the trouble to change rear ends put something real under it like a 9in Ford its easer to change gears in it anyway!!! Razz But them again that would be a waste of a good rear end. Rolling Eyes Laughing

what will the needs of your car be? Will you be on the highway at all, are you wanting something that is super fast off the line or a little of both?

I would say that you would probally not want to use that Monte rear end. There really not that strong.

If you are going to drive over 65 mph for over 10 miles I'd stay with a 373. 411 will kill gas milage and after everyone runs off and leaves you on the highway it will tick you off. I'd go with a 355 to a 373 rear. Number of ways of telling what gear you have, from reading the tag to pulling the cover and counting. Let me know what rearend you find and I will try to help you figure out what ya have.
