Windows 7 home premium

I have windows 7 home premium loaded on my laptop, and no matter which option I choose for configuring updates ( it is set to configure at startup) it always configures right in the middle of trying to do something on the internet. Can be quite infuriating. This machine has come real close to getting run over numerous times. If it weren't for the fact it was a real expensive item at more than half off on QVC, it would have gone the way of the wicky bird months ago. Anyone experience this aggravating situation with their op system?

Have even considered using it for a clay bird.

I have had so many issue through the years with computer I don't even try anymore to figure them out. It doesn't matter if I pay way to much or get a cheap junker they last about the same. I bought this reconditioned one I'm on now very cheap through Walmart online. I just go until they start to smoke and buy another one. It's cheaper than trying to get Goof Squad to fix it like I have in the past.

Kinda the way I feel, but the 'puter is fine- it's the op system thats AFU. A pat on the back to Bill Gates. It's not a big deal, just inconvenient.

Are you talking about the little yellow and white message box that appears in the lower right hand of the screen?

If so, this box is letting you know that it installed updates and needs to (eventually) restart to finish the update. Now once it restarts, and is in the bootup process, thats when it should configure the updates as you said in startup.

Now whats possibly happening is while you're clicking things on the screen, its sending that little yellow box behind the internet page. Its set to default of 10 mins so if you dont hit the postpone button or set it for a few hours instead of the 10 mins, it will automatically restart on you whether you want it to or not

I've seen all those screens at different times, but occasionally this thing decides on its own that it is going to configure downloaded updates whenever it feels like it, regardless whether I setup configure on startup, or "in ten minutes". It will occasionally just cease functioning what it is that I am trying to do, and reboot all of its own accord, and wherever I am, it doesn't save a thing, reboots, configures, and comes back, but on the startup screen, not where I left off. If it would go back to where I left off, I wouldn't car either.

My brother has worked in tech for over 30 years, troubleshooting, writing programs for industry, etc. He has no answer as to why it does this. Truth be known, Bill's esteemed gathering of program writers in the silicon valley don't know either.

I can live with it, but once in a while it goes about its business, and I have to start over. And these things are supposed to save us SO MUCH TIME and make our lives easier. Had to get myself started, didn't I? That's why most of these things are used for entertainment- you can't rely on them to actually do a process.

And now that I think about it, I have started it, and within 2 minutes of startup, it has rebooted on its own to configure.... go figure.

Hate to say it, but most computer crashes and airplane crashes have one thing in common............pilot error.   

That is quite likely true. Which leads to one thought.... was auto pilot created for a reason?

Seriously, in the news lately about that jet on the west coast clipping the seawall....sounds like it was obvious that the pilots (both the rookie and the trainer) had no clue what was happening. Of course, the media is telling us that, so do you believe it, or not? I think I will opt for the daredevil mode of transportation ( driving my old junk cars) instead of going for safety (airliners).

   Just getting on the plane while having to jump through hoops to show that I'm not a Muslim dressed up like a fat, bald, Irish guy is enough to keep me from flying.

I occassionally have same issue with W-7, I normally get the restart window that I can postpone, but every once in a while, computer will just shut off, then pop back on about 20-30 secs later, and I have to sign on again.

That would get old really fast!

It does get old- real fast...... I'm not glad that I'm not the only one, just glad that the silly program is consistent. Somebody ese experiences the same thing.... I'm not alone after all..... and it's not just me.

I think it's probably the NSA made Micrsosoft install secret software so when it does its own shutdown, it's actually the gub' ment secretly stealing our web browsing information...  

And yes it can be annoying, thankfully it doesn't happen to me that often.
Nope diesel, not just you. Must be some glitch in the software somewhere.

In the words of the mythbusters, I would say that is "plausible." But prolly not even a myth.

No it doesn't happen often, but the likelihood of it happening is proportional to the importance of the task you are trying to get accomplished.

And inversely related to how much time you have to complete it.

Flying is undoubtably the most stressful for of transportation that I have ever used! And, the stress is strictly due to security requirements.
