It was bought from the forestry service in Morehead, KY many many years ago. A local guy owned it for years. My friend Todd ended up talking the old dude out of it and drove it for a while as a stocker with the 307. Then the bug bit him again and it ended up with a 468 and air ride.

The engine had been in a few different vehicles. Including a Astro van.

Anyway, Todd had been on me to sell my 51 Chevy to him since I wasn't getting the engine swap done fast enough to suit him. After repeated offers, one night he offered up the Suburban. Keep in mind that the 51 was sitting in the garage with no engine, transmission or rear end in it. I had all of those just not installed. I finally gave in and traded with him. He came to the garage and put the rearend in to suit him, took the transmission (which ended up being junk and something I still owe some one a beating for) and some parts from the engine.

The Suburban got NINE miles to the gallon on a good day. 93 octane and a bottle of octane boost per half tank please. For a big barge it was scary fast. Keep in mind it still had the factory bull dog transmission. I kept it for awhile but I like to drive and it wasn't the vehicle for that. So I sold it to a guy in Harrodsburg, KY.

You might as well be driving a motor home! I dont think you would look as goood in it though.

You want scary? The same guy who built the Suburban, has a chopped Model A in his garage with a 496 stroker that has dual carbs on a tunnel ram. There was some talk of putting a bottle on it to.

It's a small world Doug. Just like one of the LA Chapter guys coming up to Southern Kentucky to buy an old truck. He got it and didn't talk much to the guy that sold it. If he would have he would have found out they run in the same circle. Maybe even would have grabbed that truck just a little cheaper. All he would have had to do is ask if he had ever heard of the Scroungers CC.
