Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
I been messing with all the little things. I got the brake lines ran but I'm having trouble getting the air out of the front right line. I'll mess with that later. Fuel pump is hooked up, gas line ran.
Fabbed up the bracket for the transmission linkage. Shifter is bolted in and working like it should.

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
I have some of the wiring done. The part for the starter and charging system. Tonight The kids and I started working on the wiring harness that will run from the cab to the back of the truck. Tail lights, brakes, turn signals and gas gauge.
This was a fun one for the kids. Aryan stuck a pen through the rolls and run out the different wires. We measured how much we needed on the truck with a piece of thin rope. Then it was tide to the chairs. Two kitchen chairs was used to help hold them and to get all the wires the same size.
Then the wire ends were put in the cordless drill to spin them together making them easier to work with. One kids used the drill while the other held the other end of the wires tight.
A little tape and then some wire loom to protect it while it's running down the frame outside the truck and it's done.

Never thought about the cordless drill trick! I have always just forced each wire into the loom individually. ::facepalm::

It's always the simple things that seem to get by us. Anything to make it faster and easier is always a plus.Chris55 wrote:Cool idea

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
I was going to run the wire down the frame this morning but thought about the running board mounts. I'm welding them on so I had to do them first to keep from melting the wires on the other side of my weld. I spent all morning doing that but at least they are done. Driver side is anyways....

It may be an over kill but I want a running board I can stand on. No sticker saying "No Step!" here!Reb Stew wrote:I was going to run the wire down the frame this morning but thought about the running board mounts. Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
First drive around the block was not what it was cracked up to be. No back shocks, no exhaust, low on trans fluid and it drug at ever piece of gravel and dip in the road. But guess what? It was fun! Before I got out of the truck I had the guy across the street freaking out over it. Some guy kept walking around it snapping pics with his phone. It was a little strange but cool too. I still have work to do on it but at least it has legs now and can move.

I'll be in the garage most of the day if anyone wants to stop by and hang out. Just pull into the alley. The garage doors will be open.

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
While I loved the look it was just too low. It drug on everything and I couldn't get it in the garage without 2X6's and 2X4's stacked to get in over the lip. Today I took out the 3" blocks out of the back. While it doesn't look as cool at least I can drive it without ripping the running boards off.

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
I welded in a cross member for the rear shocks and fabbed up a set of lower shock mounts. The truck now has rear shock. 3 way adjustable shocks and they work good! Extra firm for hitting the back roads for some ridge running or soft for the highway cruising out of town. I ran the wiring for the electric fan and hung the rear view mirror. I also fixed a water leak that was coming from the water pump, thanks to the loose plug where the heater hose normally goes.

Didn't we see a couple of posts where you redid the heater box? I'm pretty sure you will need a heater way up there.

I'll be hooking the hoses up when it gets cold. I never run them in the summer just in case the core puts out a little heat.

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
Been busy last couple days. A ton of small stuff. Ran the wires for the electric fan and got them all hooked up. Started welding the brackets on for the right side running boards. I was almost done when I ran out of wire, AGAIN! I put a headlight switch in and got the headlights, dimmer switch and tail lights working. The rear brakes are new with new hardware but the adjusters were shot. Advance has to order them and it will take 3 days to get them. Autozone had one. I put it on. I'll try a different Autozone tomorrow to see if I can scrounge the other one up. Pulled the diff cover off to see what the gear was. It has been off before and didn't have any gear oil in it. I'll have to get some tomorrow and finish it up. The rearend has a 411 in it. Still a ton of things to do but at least I can drive and work on the rest..
