You should take a look at the rims on Jeff's '37. They're a steel wheel so you can paint but look pretty cool. I think they are call artillery wheels. Lots a low riders us them on those late 40's Chebbies. I know you can get them in about any bolt pattern, width, or diameter.

Maybe we can get Jeff and all have an Egg McMuffin then head out to Starks. He's not much of an early riser on the weekends any more. Make sure you wear a hat because I don't have any sunglasses and if the sun comes out ................
What time should we expect you? I don't know if Jeff's planning on any other visits or not. We haven't been to Modoc in a while to get any Moon Pies.

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
Didn't get too much done today. Pulled the TBI intake and the valve covers off. I'm hoping the 305 will get okay gas mileage. I have a Holley that will go on the dual plane intake for now. Later when I have the money I'm going to buy a small CFM, 500 Edelbrock and use it.
Most people don't want a 305. They say it's not worth anything. I don't want to go fast I just want to save gas. Beside, anyone that tells me they are not worth anything I can let them know this one is worth at least 2 bucks.
A little epoxy and we have two silver dollars in the freeze out plugs. Just for the fun of it.

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
The shop truck will sooner or later get updated heat and AC but for now the stock box will have to do. It was shoved into a box with other junk and had been roughly taken off. Looks like they cut one bolt off and damaged a spot and pried the box off one side.

There was not one screw that would come out without heat. I look really happy don't I.
Heat it. Smack it with a hammer and hope it comes out without stripping the heads off the 1954 screws.

Then I figured out an easier way of putting heat on the screws.

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
Wouldn't you know it. The motor didn't work. I got it moving and you could tell it was trying but it just wouldn't get going.
I thought I'd try to find a new 12V motor and go that route. Before I knew it I had the case opened and took a look.
It was dirty. I checked a few things but nothing looked out of wack. I cleaned it up a bit, blew it all out and put it back together. I hooked it up in the garage and VARROOOOM! It takes off and runs great.
I'm just going to buy a voltage reducer(Runtz) and leave it as is.

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
The heater box but was full of dirt and grease. It was put in a hot bath to soak.
While the tin was soaking I thought I'd try to clean up the emblem.
Polish wouldn't work so I soaked it and then used an SOS pad on it. I was carefull to stay away from the painted areas. It helped then I finished it off with some polish.

The tin came out of the hot water almost stripped of the flaking paint.
The motor and hamster cage was sanded down and ready for some paint.

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
I must have took 100 pics trying to show the detail of this paint. Only a few came out where you could see what you see in person. I wanted something that looked like the factory may have done but a little nicer. The color doesn't show up well on the screen. This color is a mix between bronze and dark gun metal grey. The cool part it's a textured finish made to look something like hammered copper.
I am pleased with the color. Nothing crazy. It looks old and subtle but not generic.

I wasn't about to stick those nasty messed up screws back in this thing. Trying to look somewhat stock but with a little flare I thought why not brass?

Re: Stewart's 1954 Chevy Shop Truck
I picked up a heater for the 37 but after fixing the mangled holes in the firewall where a heater was I am having a hard time drilling holes, maybe after I get it ready to install I will get to installing it.

That thing looks pretty slick. A Ford oval might look a little better. The Blue would look good against that nice paint job.
