House kills proposed $10 vehicle title hike in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Ohio House has dropped a plan to raise the cost of an Ohio motor vehicle title by $10, to $25.

A two-year state transportation budget that cleared the House Thursday does call for eliminating an unpopular $20 late fee for driver license renewals. A $20 fee for late renewal of a vehicle registration would stand.

The $7 billion transportation spending plan won unanimous approval in the House and now goes to the Senate.

The Kasich administration proposed hiking the title fee to benefit the State Highway Patrol. The Columbus Dispatch reports Republicans who control the House decided instead to direct more funding to the patrol from state fees on commercial trucks.

The newspaper reports most of the money in the bill would go toward road maintenance and construction.
