Re: 1955 Oldsmobile 88
I think someone is looking for that grill. If it is low drag.

Man, that grille and hood really look sweet. That old thing must be a GT or something like that. It's got the hood with a scoop and hood pins to hold it down under extreme acceration. We fine tuned the ignition last Friday nite on that old Falcon.

Re: 1955 Oldsmobile 88
Well, like egay or not it came through for me this time... finally found the correct 4bbl intake and for pretty cheap.
I got it in on Tuesday. Got it part way installed last night. Right now it is just snugged down. While the intake was out I was able to reach the road draft tube. So I am changing it over to a pcv system to get rid of the exhaust smell from coming into the car.
All that's left is to make a bracket for the linkage and get everything hooked up for the carb. Saturday is looking like some great weather. I hope to get it finished then.

Re: 1955 Oldsmobile 88
Any one have an air breather that fits a Rochester 4GC carb? It is smaller than a standard Holley. I had one of those adapter packs and none of them are the correct size either. I will measure the opening and post the size here later tonight.

I have the base if you can find the rest. Just the bottom is what I have.

Re: 1955 Oldsmobile 88
I'll give it a try.
Im not looking for anything fancy even an old steel set. An older set that fits would work because I'm needing to take the hose from the pcv valve to a port in the air breather. Even if I have to make the port in the bottom for it myself.

Re: 1955 Oldsmobile 88
Well I got the intake tightened down. Got all the hoses to the carb and radiator hooked back up. Worked on the linkage some. I'm really close to having it all hooked up and working correctly. Still need some adjustments to get it to work just right.
I did get it started and up to temp. I haven't done anything to this carb yet. The motor sounds much better. It is defenetlly more responsive. Can't wait to get it on the road. She didn't want to idle below 1100rpm. Also everytime she died I couldn't get her started again without pouring some gas in the top of the carb. My guess is the floats aren't adjusted properly and they aren't filling up.
It does appear that my road draft tube delete was a success!
So I'll work on the linkage a bit more and pull the carb off and go though it. Hopefully another day of messing around with it and she'll be ready for the road again.

Re: 1955 Oldsmobile 88
I did get the linkage all worked out. I also found an adapter for the air breather.
Unfortunately, I have a bad wheel bearing. So instead of buying stock ball bearing wheel bearings, I just ordered a disk brake conversion kit from Scarebird. They have backing plates that bolt to the original spindle to hold a brake caliper. All the parts are from different GM cars and use roller bearings. After all is said and done, I will have spent just a little more for this conversion, than I would have buying stock bearings.
Here is a pic of the kit...

Re: 1955 Oldsmobile 88
Scarebird makes good stuff.... fully engineered, well manufactured and nicely thought out. You won't regret the extra cost for the return you are getting. Glad to see she's coming along....

Re: 1955 Oldsmobile 88
I have all the brake parts ordered. Hope to get it all back together next month!
Then I will begin taking all the trim off the car to figure out body work. I think I'm pretty settled on satin black with a dark purple gloss lace top.
Thinking something like this...

Re: 1955 Oldsmobile 88
Sweet project car! Love the direction you are going and kudos on all of your hard work! Glad to see you keeping this one on the street and looking (and running) better and better. It's stuff like this that keeps the rest of us with non-runners motivated and makes us smile.
Later,
Lee

I thought we had a thread on here about lace painted cars but I can't find it now. If I remember right there were some good pics.

Re: 1955 Oldsmobile 88
Oh yea... And since my bumpers are already painted and aren't in good enough shape to rechrome I am going to paint them a dark silver. They should look a lot better than being painted the body red that they are painted currently.

Thanks AD, my minds racing now! May be a little lace in the future of the 57's roof! Was just going to go pearl white, but now who knows?
