The 2bbl is definitely needing some work. So I though I'd see if I can find a 4bbl for a good price. Plus the Olds/Caddy air breathers are cool!

Re: 1955 Oldsmobile 88
I had heard some issues with one of the Volks Rods set ups. I didn't read into it too much but someone was saying the chinc frontend stuff he bought off Bill was junk and broke. It caused a bad wreck. I'm not sure what it was that came loose. It was just the first negitive stuff I had heard about Speedway.
We are screwed when it come to this stuff. When I bought my washer a couple weeks ago it said built in Ohio. I looked around and even that Chinese made stuff all looked the same. I pointed it out and he then told me they where all the same. China made. The one that had the Ohio tag on it was parts from China and Ohio guys put the Chinc stuff together. I went ahead and bought the one made in Ohio with Chinese parts. I told the salesman that a least I'm buying something that put a few Americans to work. It's a sad state we are in with all this over seas built crap.

Re: 1955 Oldsmobile 88
Do what you want with your car, but when it comes to putting flash on car, thats a personal preference, Me personnaly I would spend my hard earned money getting as reliable as I can first then add the ginger bread last.. (of course thats why I have 5 cars and on 1 3/4's of them run right...Because I have no money to make them safe or reliable...lol)
Re: 1955 Oldsmobile 88
Not sure what flash you're talking about. If I have to rebuild a carb I'd rather do it to a 4bbl and switch the intake over all at once. If you're meaning the air breather, I'm just going to use a cheapie till later, when I can save up and get the old stock one.

Re: 1955 Oldsmobile 88
You only need the top part and put it over the rest of a open air cleaner,I done that on my 53 when I found out the oil bath made it use more gas and when used as a lid has a nice sound when the secondaries are opened up.

Re: 1955 Oldsmobile 88
yhea was talking about the aircleaner.. I tell you what, I thought about the 4brl swap on my 64 but kept the old 2 brl and have not looked back, I kinda like the mpg I'm getting with it too. I know its not a hot rod, so I just kept the ole 2 barrel, that and the $16 rebuild kit was a lot cheaper than a new/used manifold and rebuilding one of my 4brl's... with the money I saved by not doing the swap I coverted to an electronic ignition, bought 2 new rear tires to go with my rims... MAybe someday if I upgrade the engine I will pop for a 4 barrel.. But Like I said its your car go for it who are we to tell you what to do with your car, that is unless you ask for an opinion/input! hehehehehehe
Re: 1955 Oldsmobile 88
Yes, but with a four barrel you can light a bigger flame. Where there's fuel there's fire. I'm thinking of putting a two barrel on my 6 cyl. I need a few unburned hydrocarbons. Fossel fuels are great.

The way things are now and going forward with the price of gas, since you're going to drive the car, which ever setup is more efficient is the one I'd go with.

Look better in person. Pics normally hide stuff but the car is cool. I stopped by his house and was checking it out.

I've tried to catch up with you. Seems like one of us is gone at opposite times. Glad you took a look. Maybe tonight or sometime Saturday we'll actually be able to run into each other.

Re: 1955 Oldsmobile 88
When I got the car, the previous owner had already purchased the shop manual...
I was trying to kill some time yesterday while I was waiting to get the boys from school. So I went poking around at the Florence Antique Mall. I came across this side mirror. Couldn't pass it up for $20!

And all I can find on the meaning behind the ringed globe logo is:
"Oldsmobile adopted a ringed-globe emblem to stress what marketers felt was its universal appeal."

Not a lot of car stuff there. License plates... couldn't find a '55. One corner had some mustang badges, a super-bee emblem and a couple other things.
I know I'm not that old, but it's still fun to come across stuff from when I was little. Pretty crazy to compare what I grew up playing with and what my boys play with now.

Re: 1955 Oldsmobile 88
The horn didn't work on the car. So last weekend I worked on it. Turns out the horn relay needed the contacts cleaned, and so did the contacts on the horns.
Today I tackled the carb...
