406 QUESTION.. STOCK OR 5.7 OR 6in RODS?
Hey guys what do you think would be the best for my 55.... 406 alum headed motor, 550 lift cam........ im going to drive this car on the street alot. and take it to the track from time to time... im getting a new bottom end kit this week, since most of you know my car blowed up,,,, building on a street/race motor that will last, BTW im trying to build a low 12 to mid 11 sec motor on pump gas....
in a 400 would you use the stock lenth rods, or 5.7 or the longer 6in?? post some idea's for combos or what you have ran in the past that did a good job....... maybe even the ups and downs of using different rods.. i do know some things about the rods in a 400 but i mess with more 350 chevy motors then anything........ thanks

Re: 406 QUESTION.. STOCK OR 5.7 OR 6in RODS?
ok here we go again . the 400 rod is a lil shorter like 5,565. the 5.7 rod needs specails pistons the pin hieght is different .and with a 5.7 rod 400 you need a small circle base cam ... which is expensive . freshin up the 406 you got. recondition the rods and put arp rod boltS in it . and a new crank . that would be a nice bottom put the cam back in it and the heads on it. and drive it BIGGER IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER

I thought a 406 CID was a Ford motor, usually with tri-power, mid sixties vintage, fell in between a 390 and a 427 (would make that Chevy run). LMAO

all I can say is that this is going to be a cool summer. if everything goes right my 454 36 truck, it will be blasting down the track. If it doesn't make a good pass I'm gonna juice it with the blue bottle.(well mine is yellow though) you get the point. build something fast, Dave!!!! Dennis may bring his Fairlane out on ya..

I know i have been over this with you and joe a million times, butt i just want it to be right the first time out, (no do overs) and i want something to be happy with u know that,,,,, i know about the different rods and pistons, and really you dont need a small circle base cam if you clearence the rod bolts, or buy the right rods,,, Butt that besides the point your right!!!! my only problem was that i had to motors and i didnt know which one too build for the car,,,, i have all the stuff to build the std bore motor other then re-con rods,,
Butt i think im going ahead and taken a few other people's opion ( you and joe) and doing up the 406 motor that came out of the car again, it will cost me just a little more cash for the rings and having to buy a new crank, (get some little trick stuff done to the block) and it should be good to go and run the numbers i want i hope,,,,,, then have the std bore motor back on the shelf for a back up motor.....
(all in all win the lottery and build too big nasty race motors) lol that or 6cyl with a spilt manifold with alot of NOS lol

Me and fords dont get along very good,,, last one i had was a stang and just driving it to work the oil pump locked up and twisted the oil rod in half,,, long story short another motor swap,, i have blown 3 ford motors up and only one chevy,, hmmm i might just stick with the bow tie motor in this ole ride lol i was online last night and seen a guy with a 302 ford in a 56 chevy, ( that made me cry)
IM really thinking about building a fox body 80's stang with a chev motor in, just as soon as i can figure out how to run the ford 5-speed trans back behind a chevy motor...... It would be fun to do and a bit different,,
