Re: 64 Chevy C10
Got some more good progress on the truck this week. I found that the fuel pump is putting out 12 psi which was pushing full past my float and flooding the cylinders. Got a regulator on it now set to 6 psi. Swapped out the 750 vac secondary for a 500 Holley 2bbl. This should be enough for the 305. Now its running alot better. I finished installing my brake lines and proportional valve. Bled the brakes till I got enough pedal to drive it. I put my daughter in and we took off down the road. First trip in 15 years for the old truck. I ended up driving it up and down the road about 5 times and each time it felt better. Now to swap out all the brake hoses and wheel cylinders and install my transmission cooler. Hope to start driving it to work, which is a 90 mile round trip, in the next few weeks. Got to get some miles on it before the National meet in June.

Re: 64 Chevy C10
Got my alternator wired in yesterday and charging. Drove it another 6 miles and when I was turning around I stopped at a local farm to talk to two old guys working on a tractor. They have a 61 Chevy grain truck that I was interested in getting the cab off. As I introduced myself and telling them who my family was, they knew my dad and one had worked with my father in law. He asked if I was inquiring about the grain truck. I told him I was and he asked if I had seen the other old truck back there? I said now. He then took me back to show me what appears to be about a 64 Chevy C10 Panel. He said they drove it in there years ago and parked it. He also told me that the Grain truck I was asking about has a 327 out of a 69 Impala that they put in it years ago also. It was parked because of a smoked clutch.. imagine that..
Anyway he asked if I wanted any parts off the panel truck. I told him I wanted the whole thing along with that 61 cab. He said he would talk to his buddy and maybe we could do some trading. They like to trade stuff. Ill be going back in the next couple weeks to see what we can work out.
My truck is running great now. Still need to focus on the brakes and tail lights before i can start driving it daily.

If the '61 has a snorkel hood I might be interested in it...

Re: 64 Chevy C10
Got my exhaust completed and new tires on it. I am now driving it. So far ive put 150 miles on it. Only issue is I think last night I burnt a plug wire. I have some straight boots on a few wires and they are on the headers. I ordered some 90 deg boots today. Its doing good and cool so far. It felt nice leaving work yesterday and it chirped 2nd gear.
Even got this old keychain for it.

Re: 64 Chevy C10
Got a new key switch installed since the original would allow anything to start it. Also installed a new headlight switch yesterday. Now my dome light and dash lights are working again. Put some more miles on it today. So far its doing pretty good. It did start missing again after I had been driving it for about 45 minutes. Once I let it cool off it was fine. The plugs in this motor are some old (BEEP) autolite's that were in it from its previous life. Stopped by today and got some R45TS plugs and got some new 90 deg boots. Ill be putting those in tomorrow after work. Although it takes for ever to shift through the gears I really like how its doing on the interstate with these 3:08 gears in it. No need for overdrive. Its only around 2400 rpm at cruising speed..

Re: 64 Chevy C10
New plugs and 90 deg boots are in. Noticed my distributor cap all jacked up. Looked up a good cap with brass lugs and found a complete HEI unit with red cap brass lugs, 65k coil, adjustable vac advance ready to install for $44 shipped

Re: 64 Chevy C10
Got my new distributor in and it seems to be working well so far.
Installed a new blower motor and it worked for about 10 seconds and stopped. Hmm no big deal right now. Then my headlights stopped working and I kinda need them so I started digging in..
Found the reason for the blower motor stopping..
The headlight issue was a loose connector on the right headlight. This is the junction for both lights. I had a new pair of High Temp headlight connectors in the glove box so I installed those.
Drove it to work tonight and found that my little radiator is not efficient enough for this Memphis Summer humid heat. Had to drive slower than usual to keep the temps below 195.
Guess I should have kept that Griffin radiator that I put on a 68 C10 Â I restored.. Time to get another one I suppose.

Steven, your build is coming pretty well after 26 years. At least you've held onto it and are now making it happen. My 1st build was a '67 chevelle.

Re: 64 Chevy C10
We built it the first time in 1990. Truck was Blue when we got it and had a .60 over 327 with a TH400. Took it down to bare metal and then filled and painted it. Worst thing I done was let it set for some many years. Drove it to work again tonight. Also started working on my 402. Got the cam and timing chain in. Should get it finished this weekend if I get my oil pump bolt and shaft in.

Re: 64 Chevy C10
Not much to update, been driving my truck keeping it around 55mph. But today I got this shiney part in that should help me get back to a cruising speed of 70.
Nice upgrade from a 1" core to a 2.2" core aluminum tank. This is what I was running on my 68 C10 and I never had any high temp issues.
Not a bad upgrade for $72 shipped.

Re: 64 Chevy C10
Decided to put some peanut port 454 heads on the 402. My large oval heads need alot of work and I did some trading for these 454 heads. Got a valve job and surface grind done. The 402 block had been decked so I should have a slight bump in compression. I installed a New 268 Comp Cam. Im not looking to go fast just want the torque to let the smoke out of the tires at will. Just a few more parts and then its ready to lay some Gold Metal Flake paint on it. Going to make it match the top of the truck.
Id like to find a tunnel ram to set on this motor.

Re: 64 Chevy C10
Got it installed and drove it a few miles running about 80 mph. So far it has only made it up to 180 deg. I may drive it to work this week, but not sure due to the outside temps hitting triple digits and the AC on my Dodge works great..
Had to refab my elec. fan mounts due to this radiator being so much thicker.

Re: 64 Chevy C10
I would totally drive the Dodge with AC!! It's way too hot to suffer in the triple digits.

Re: 64 Chevy C10
Well I drove it to work my last day on shift last week and it broke down on me that morning. She quit firing on me and I thought it was my ignition module but it ended up being my hot wire on my dist. cap pull loose. Just enough to loose connection but still be in the connector. Got it back going and drove it to a meet the next night.
We drove to Marion, AR to meet up with the Delta Cruisers behind the Sonic. We got there at 8:05 and there was no one there. We had a couple of our kids with us and they wanted to hit up Taco Bell. This is Billy Panel's LS powered 86 C10, its going to be a nice one.
