Short bus???
This one is mine. 65 GMC panel. 10 1/2 foot cargo area behind the seat. I have no idea what I will do with this. I may keep it a while or may sell it. I'm so busy around the shop it will take a while to work on it. Has carb issues right now. 305 CI V6 GMC engine. First one of these I have ever owned. It's big, ugly and Amy hates it. I may just keep it around. May even paint her name on the side and drive around

Shorten the frame, section the windows out, and slide the rest forward. Lower the stance, painted steelies, and cruise baby cruise. Easy for me to say, I don't have to do all the work. Heck I can't even get my own junk done.

Re: Short bus???
Make a camper out of it. Plenty of room for some beds and camping gear. Slam it with some of those big polished Alco rims for a semi. Saw a camper done that way somewhere and it was pretty cool.

Re: Short bus???
I couldn't handle the chalky pink faded red paint. I pulled the one ton shop truck over and stood on the bedside with one foot and the other foot on the roof of the panel. I used a mop and Comet to scrub the grime off the roof. I then painfully removed the Low Life stencil that was sprayed on the panels. I then went over the whole truck with Comet, Then washed it with Dawn and started rubbing out the paint with compound. The roof and below the body line still need to be rubbed out with compound. After it's all done I'll toss a coat of wax on it.
Grand Daughter was helping Pappaw rub out the old paint.

I want to bag this one. I thought about a static drop but the back overhang is so long I don't think I can get it up my drive.

Re: Short bus???
I'd be willing to trade it off for something older. Model A project or something like that. I have been thinking about letting it go because I know if I start cutting on it it will stick around for a while. It's starting to grow on me.Blue Eyed Devil wrote:Let me know when you get tired of it...

Re: Short bus???
I like it- and that 305 Jimmy V-6 is tougher than nails. As I recall, that engine also came in trucks clear up to the 7500/9500 series. If I'm not mistaken, in displacements clear up to 478. And I also think that GMC bolted a few of those blocks and cranks nose to tail, and made some V-12's out of them.... in gas and diesel. The diesels were aspirated, so no real thunder there. As I recall one of the weak links, was that when run hard, the gassers needed a lengthy cool down period before shut down, or they would warp/crack heads. Back when I was a young lad, we had a customer used to run them in his log trucks in the early 70's . Those trucks spent more time on their sides getting dragged thru the woods, than they did on their wheels.

Yea you give me the bug again. Either way I have to round up another 20's or 30's car. It's time again. You lit a fire.Blue Eyed Devil wrote:Reb Stew wrote:I'd be willing to trade it off for something older. Model A project or something like that. They did make a V-12, but it was not two blocks - It was a single casting. Most people mistake it for two blocks because it had 4 heads and valve covers, but no...

Re: Short bus???
The rear hanger on the old truck is some funky design and it's cobbled together where it's not safe to cruise. We cut up a truck today to get the mounts off. Fronts are not much count but he rears are nice. Leafs are messed up but the main leafs are fine. Should be able to combine what all is there and do a flip to get it down out of the clouds.
