Re: Where everyone go?
I thought for sure with the deep freeze up north, there would be a lot more chatter on here.

Re: Where everyone go?
I guess peoples' keyboards are too chilly. It's supposed to be really cold up here until the end of the week. I know it's not as nasty as New York and parts up East but we're supposed to have wind chill factors well below zero. We put a water heater on by old Ford and the old girl starts right up but the other day it took about 5 miles before the old C-4 shifted into second. I thought I was going to have to drive all the way to work in 1st gear. I think this next cold snap might reach pretty far South. I guess it'll be a good weekend to watch the racing on the tube. All of NASCAR and NHRA are going strong this weekend.

Been at the hospital with pops and mom since Saturday. Can't get him to leave so I've stayed with him. He's been here for 2 weeks and 3 days.

Prayers sent for your mom and family. Yeah it's supposed to be 29 degrees down here tomorrow, I know that's nothing for up north, but plenty cold for down here.

This is that kind of cold that sneaks up on you, it doesn't feel like it's real cold but it is and you find out when frost bite hits...

Quiet on the forum for sure...hope you all are doing alright. This late winter blast has really been a momentum killer for sure. Once it breaks I hope to get the tranny pulled from the '88 and then drop the motor in. It's just been cold here for a bit and I've been pretty swamped with work-related stuff (and brain drain when I get home).

Re: Where everyone go?
I had so many issues with my FB account I closed it permanently 6 weeks ago. The only reason I had it to begin with, was my whole family uses FB to communicate to one another. Being all of them live throughout the US, it's difficult to get a hold of them by phone, being everyone is doing there own thing. I've spoke to my Mom once in the past 6 weeks, which before I could at least send her "Good Morning" text. I hadn't used a stamp in almost 5 years, but today I sent her a letter. Â
On a different note, we have almost 5 inches of Snow on the ground so far in Florence. It's pretty windy out here in the County and have a few huge snow drifts. Hopefully this white stuff will be gone until next Winter.

Re: Where everyone go?
Happy Friday everybody! Â Not a lot of time wrenching on the car lately. Going to order a better set of headlights for the 39. Been fighting it and trying different home made set ups....Just not working as good as I think they should. They have a bad setup from the get go. The thick lenses fragment the beam and I just over drive them. It has been a very fast week for me as I have been on a softball field every night this week till 9:30. Â It is a lot of fun and I get to spend a little more time with the kiddo!
Hope your weekend is a good one!

Re: Where everyone go?
The usual here. alternator went out on the Tahoe on the way back from Murray,KY sunday. finally got time to fix that yesterday evening. Been going over to pops house almost every night. His furnace went out last thursday and I patched it up enough to keep it going until after the funeral and a buddy could get the parts needed to fix it right. That was fixed sunday while the wife and I took our daughter back to Murray state on sunday, nice little 12 hours of driving. He's not sleeping well since moms funeral. otherwise he seems to be doing about as well as you could expect. The great grand baby being there helps a lot. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. They've meant a lot in the past weeks, continued prayers for dad as he goes through this difficult time. when it warms up I'm going to see if he wants to pull out the 55 and do some wrenching. maybe set up a work session or two at the house, I'll grill some burgers and dogs we can do some wrenching and do some story swapping. Pops loves to talk cars and I think it would do him some good.

Re: Where everyone go?
How's everyone this fine Spring morning?
After getting my alternator installed a month or so ago, it seemed as soon as my ride hit 25 yrs old, my Z decided to cost me some more $$'s. The 1st few days that it was warm enough to roll the windows down, my left power window decided to take a dump on me.
I ripped into it and pulled the panel off..Do you all remember when you could take a door panel off, identify the issue, pull the window rail and put the door back together in less than an hour? Yeah, those times are long gone. I had a heck of a time pulling the door panel. More screws and bolts than I've ever seen even for a quarter century sports car! Then there were 2 holes to get to the rail the size of your hand. Not much room to work with! I checked the regulator and motor, only to find out they both are fine. Then I thought maybe the window came off the rail and it was hanging on the rail at some point. I pulled out the rail to check to see if maybe the gears were wore down. Nope, everything looks to be okay.
I am at a loss! After messing with the door all day and getting frustrated, I decided to walk away from the project and come back to it later before I broke something else. All you car buffs no exactly what I'm talking about! When you've worked on your ride all your life, how many times have you been so frustrated that your ready to blow a gasket. If you take a break and come back later, it seems that you quickly diagnose the issue, fix the problem and go onto another project.
A week later my window is still unresolved. I went onto a specific "Z" website and asked others if they had any issues with a Z's window. Oh wow, there were at least a dozen fellas and gals that responded and all of them were different answers. All the responses I had checked and pointed out that all there ideas had been checked numerous times and that wasn't the problem. My next step is to buy the whole rail including the regulator and motor. But I have to save up the dollars to do this. It's not worth going to Besslers to buy the parts, because I will probably go through the same issues 6 months down the road being there is no warranty.
Right now I'm having to pull the window up by hand about half way. It sort of reminds me when I was a teenager when I used to do the same thing when I didn't have the money to fix it. Back then I didn't have bills like I do now. Sooooo, I will wait and fix it when the time comes...
Everyone have a GREAT DAY! Â

Thanks for the suggestions -
I checked the motor with my multimeter and a test light. All is good..A friend of mine asked me to check my regulator arms, being if they're not properly lubricated, it may cause the glass to hang up. I ended up pulling out the rail, regulator, motor and the glass from the door and degreased all the parts and relubed all moving parts to make sure the viscosity of the old grease hadn't broke down. Re-hooked all the power back up and watched all the parts moving outside the vehicle and the glass continued to hang up. It was really baffling, being I watched each part do it's job correctly with no issues.
I also checked the sprocket. Originally I thought it could be the sprocket, being the way the glass was hanging up. I thought for sure that a spline might be worn down and it was causing the hang up. Then again with a little less than 85,000 original miles on my Z, you wouldn't think a steel sprocket would be worn. But who knows on a 25 yr old vehicle.
BUT - you may be right on the ground. When I checked it with my multimeter, it was showing good. When I tested it with my test light, it showed in the yellow, not green, like it should have. I'm going out here in a bit and chase the ground wire down to see if I have any infractions on that wire. I know the ground is good from the battery to the fuse box. I'm thinking that maybe the ground wire from the regulator may have a kink or open wire and it's shorting off a positive lead inside the door on the switch.

That's really nice that he wants to help you out. I remember those days with my Son, now all he wants to do is lay around his house in air conditioning.

Re: Where everyone go?
It seems I missed a lot the last week and a half. My PC (computer) decided to take a dump on me and I just received it back yesterday evening. I usually let my 6 year old Great Niece play kids games on it when she comes over. Yep, she hit an advertisement that had a virus on it and I didn't see her do it.
Well, that led to a bunch of other viruses and my PC crashed hard. My Son works on computers for a living and he told me it was the worst he had ever seen. I was lucky he didn't have to erase everything and put everything back to the way it was when I bought it. Which is why it took so long to fix all the issues I had.
Lesson learned! Do not let anyone play on a computer that doesn't know what they are doing.
