Re: Home made car hauler?
Those old used buses were used a ton for tractor pulling back at the county fairs. The would leave th back on, build in a ramp, then load the dragster style pullers in them, pretty cool.
I got a buddy up near Columbus who just bought an older bus, he will be gutting it to make it into a camper.

Buddy of mine made one for his dirt track car. Talked to him a couple weeks ago because i was wanting to do something like this. He said he got the bus for 2600. But im not sure how much he spend on stuff to make it a hauler.

Re: Home made car hauler?
Non-Comm.....Weigh station has no say in it.....troopers also, Non Comm, unless you were doing something wild....how many times you see them pull over regular trucks.....NEVER.......
Re: Home made car hauler?
Be thankful that OH will turn a blind eye to one ton pickups, race car haulers, and trailers behind pickups. Of course always keep in mind that NY is the #1 revenue generating state in the union, but if there is a roadside commercial vehicle inspection, with the "all trucks must enter" sign, they mean all trucks. I found that out one time. The feller was pretty tweaked when he pulled me over, asking if I saw the sign. I said that I had, to which he asked me what type of vehicle I was driving. I told him a pickup. He said that it is a pickup truck. I said nothing. He continued that since it was a pickup truck, that I was expected to enter as the sign said. I replied that I was under the interpretation it was for over the road trucks and such over 10,000#, and not for private vehicles. He informed me that I was to stop, and that it was up to the officer on duty to determine through questioning whether or not each pickup truck was a commercial entity, or a private operator. If the determination was made that it was a personal vehicle and not a commercial operation, that vehicle would be waved through. I guess you need a scorecard to determine if you need to pull in in NY. And with a trailer behind it is a whole different ballgame. And you can register a pickup in NY with passenger plates, provided its unladen weight is under around 6000# or something like that. Each trip to DMV requires a lawyer to determine what to do for your vehicle registration any more. Why can't this deal be federal like they claim it is?

I think it could be really cool to build a car hauler out of a bus

I was thinking about it for myself but I got something now.
As a side note on hauling the gasser... I do know where a bus is. A 1951 Chevy school bus.
