Newport, Ky (what happened)

alot of people know the history and some dont. i found this and thought id share.

the flamingo/633 club was at 633 york street. it became one of newports most popular casinos during the boomtime for illegal gambling. in the 40's & 50's frank sinatra and marilyn monroe rolled dice there. in the 60's the club was leased by someone else which he brought in chuck berry, jerry lee lewis, little richard and the isley brothers. some of the building is still there the cab company uses it.

Most of Newports history is bad history. full of gangsters and crime. most of the stars were brought here because of the Beverly Hills Club which was owned by the Cleavland Sindicate. A lot of famous people were in Newport at one time or another. even JFK ate dinner across the street from the house I use to live in as a kid. we did not live there then but we knew the family that owned the house. I can say that I was in the same house that JFK was in at one time. I'm a huge history buff and if anyone wants to sit and talk about some of the stuff I'm game.

Man, when I was a teenager, I used to hang out there when it was the Mid=west punk rock showcase... We used to sneak in and drink Foster's oil can beers, Shorty(the owner never cared much as long as the place was packed and you had money for beer, and that bathroom was one of the worst places on earth when I think of what hell would be like I picture the pisser there....Oh the memories....

i also read that abraham lincoln partied in the southgate house.

next to it. 633 was the address .the cab stand is 629 york st.

Next time we get together I'll tell you some stories about the Southgate House, talk about haunted......My brother and I do work there alot, real interesting place to say the least. Gen Thompson lived, the inventor of the Thompson Sub-Machine gun...

yes it is. Brass Bull is across the street too.. Mina owns them both. Newport was trying to push her out and even tried to slow down her costomers when they were redoing the sidewalks, but she ended up sueing the city and won. Newport leaves her alone now, for the time being anyway.
