Re: 1320 and The Devil's Advocate
I was shooting to have it running and driving under it's own power within two weeks. I didn't make that deadline. Having to wait on parts to get here in the mail has held me back two times already. Even stuff I have been getting from Advance has to be ordered. I went up there last night to buy regular old fashion lug nuts and they only had 2 in stock. I don't have a deadline now. Just trying to get it done quick. I try to work on it every day even if it's just for an hour.jbs10 wrote:nice ....so is thir a finish date. u inpired me to get back on the truck me and gage got it yeserday and brout it to the house so i can get something done.....keep the pic comeing
;;;;be safe scrounger;;;;;;;;;;
There is one thing I keep fighting myself on. I want to chop the top. It's no big deal to do it later in most cases but with this one it is. I want to put a roll cage in it. If I don't chop the top now I can't do it later because the cage would have to be redone. So I need to figure out of I want to chop it now and put the cage in it or put the cage in it and just leave the roof alone. After the cage goes in I can't chop it. The cage will serve two purposes. To keep me safe and second to support the body. I'm going to use the cage as mounting points for the Dodge body. Tieing the body shell to the cage at every point I can. Doing it this way I don't have to worry about replacing the wood that it use to have for bracing.
It's cool you are back on the truck. I was driving by almost every night to see if you was in there working.

It's been a fun build so far. I haven't hurt myself bad enough to have to stop yet either.JRiggs wrote:out of all of the builds i have seen you do I LIKE THIS ONE THE MOST..... second would have to be the 36 truck

I, on the other hand, would do a subtle chop, say 2 or 3 inches.

Re: 1320 and The Devil's Advocate
Without a channel job I could drop the lid down without any headroom issues. The 34 had a 4" chop

Day 17
Took it easy this morning. I over did it a little yesterday and I'm sore.
I got the fake moon tank bolted down for good this time. I ran my metal gas line and hooked the fuel system up.
I wrestled with the manifold bolts and got them loose. Pulled the dipstick tube and got the manifold off. As soon as I get the rest of the steering hooked up I can make my zoomies. I finished the rest of my time by removing some more junk on the engine. I was wanting to use the wiring that was on the engine but it is in pretty bad shape. Bare wire all through it. I'll rewire everything. There isn't much anyways. I did some more measuring on the roof to see if I want to do the chop. Still not sureabout it.

Re: 1320 and The Devil's Advocate
I went over the 58 and it's too rough to put the money into it that it would take to make it a half way decent cruiser for Amy. So it's on it's way out the door. getting rid of that funny bracket would sure help the looks. That thing that's on there now is strange lookin'.magicman_1968 wrote:Dang man im didnt even know you building another one......whats up with the 58......Lookin real good you are moving right along man....i will see if i got an extra alt. bracket laying around for ya.....

Re: 1320 and The Devil's Advocate
Day 18
It has steering!!!!
I found my big box from Speedway on my porch today. I sure wish they would knock or something but at least I got it.
I spent more time on the front end than I should have. I was trying to be fancy and pull the drag link in close so I wouldn't have as much trouble making the headers. I messed with it and messed with it but just couldn't get it right. If the geometry if off a little it won't turn the wheels right. I flipped the pitman arm back around the way I had it to begin with and it works great. I'll just have to shoot my pipes straight over the drag link. No biggy. Lock to lock it has the same degree of turn left and right with plenty of movement for a normal turn and then some. I put on the tie rod and got the front end aligned pretty close for now.
Sorry for the B&W pics. I cought it after a couple. I forgot to switch it back over from earlier.
This drive shaft I robbed from the 58 Chevy was close. Need to be cut an inch or more.
I took some time to clean my tools up and clean the barn a little. It was a mess. Not a bad few hours working though. I was wanting to get a little more done because I may not be able to work on her tomorrow. I have to go out of town. We will see though.

Day 20
Got about an hour in today. Started on my headers. The won't be anything fancy just a few pipes tossed on it untill I can find some BBC fenderwell headers.

Day 21
Finished my radiator brakets and mount. I had one piece of 16 gauge that was big enough to run off the radiator bracket and go to the back of the body. I trimmed it to run flush with the sheet metal below the rear window and welded it in.
Jeff gave me this thick tray a while back. I thought it would be good for a battery box. I got it welded where I wanted it.
Still need to cap my frame. I will do that here soon. Right now I have that one bar welded in there to support the roof.
I messed with the headers but I'm not liking what I see so I may start over with them.

day 22
Looks like a wash today. I spent some time with Riggs in his garage and I may be going to Frankfort with Vickers in a little while so I figured I'd let the 33 go tonight. I did run up to Joe's and pick up a rearend that I'm going to use. Between Joe and Howie I guess they set it up for me to get it off Bill. Joe got him to drop it off at his house and I just went up on the hill to grab it. Thanks guys. Joe helped load it up after Corey about dropped it on me and twisted my back. Sucks getting old.
