Saratoga Street Newport Ky. I will post more photos of that "street running" operation. It was mostly transfer runs from Clair Yard near Lunken to Decoursey Yard in Latonia. If you are geeky like me you can do a Google satellite search and you will still be able to see exactly where this line once ran. I think they abandoned it in 1985 86 or so.

There are still quite a few street running trains left in the U.S. One in Bedford Indiana had a right of way through the town square until just a few years ago. Youtube search "train street running" you'll see all kinds of trains in neighborhoods.

Never thought about it. We used to have street cars in Nashville that ran down the street. General Motors bought the street car company and shut it down. Then GM "offered" to sell the city busses to replace the missing trolleys. If you want to piss my dad off all you have to do is ask him about it.

You are welcome to post anything you want Dennis, you know that. Very cool pics! Brings back my childhood seeing a train on that street. Tracks are not even there anymore. What a shame. Life was so simple then.

Damn, I cannot get shit to post now. But I am transferring pictures into smaller folders to make them easier to find. I have 1000's of photos of all kinds of stuff. From cars, trains, old city street scenes, neon signs, old motels/hotels, cafes, diners, restaurants, in general all old stuff. Maybe I should just post the whole folder.

10th and Saratoga St. That is Kincaid Auto Sales, 1039 Saratoga St. Newport, KY 41071 on the left. I use to repo for them and became good friends with the guy that owned it and many other places until he tried to hire a hitman to kill his wife. He had enough cash that he talked his way into the nut house. After he served his time and was ready to walk they charge him with the murder of his first wife, 17 years before the charge of hiring a hitman for his then current wife. He just went right back in the nut house and is still there.

On the right was Gabby's Bar which everyone called Stabby Gabby's. The name stuck and with good reason. Eyeballs on the floor every Friday night. I remember being in there when I was 19 years old and they were serving me the hard stuff. I was in bad shape. Years later when it closed up the Mexicans moved in there and rented it to live in. They were telling me it was haunted. I told a few of them some stories and it didn't take long and they moved out. Very Happy

7th and Saratoga was Tallens Auto Parts. The last mom and pop auto parts store in Newport. You could ask for something and 99% of the time they went and grabbed what you needed and never used a book or computer. Scotty knew his stuff!

You know, my best friend in high-school lived between the I and the train tracks but I just don't know if I could get used to a freight train running down the street in front of the house. Shocked
