Mullens Dining Cars opened in 1946 alongside Highway 101 in Buellton, Ca.
Very popular with the truckers.
Ed Mullens built this restaurant with two scrapped street cars from Los Angeles.
it failed in 1955.

Well I'm glad you've been to this one and recognized it, there doesn't seem to be a lot of photos on the internet for truck stops at least for vintage photos. I spent more than a few hours trying to find some. And what are the odds of me finding a few photos and you just happened to have been to this one. Very Cool.

The Iceberg Café, Route 66, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 1940

Mullens Dining Cars opened in 1946 and then decided to get out of the
business 3-1/2 years later so he sold the diner to a woman Louise Lane
who specialized in Spanish food and she continued until 1955 when she
went out of business.
I lived in Los Osos (the bear) Calif. for awhile which is north of Buellton Ca.
and I would pass the dining cars coming and going and never knew the history.
You know what they say "you learn something everyday" and I did.

will like. I'm sure the waitress and patron are typical of the 40's and '50's
hell maybe even later. (under renovations)

was a patron but it turns out she's the waitress.

Yea i started Truckin in 92 and wish i would have takin lots of pictures of different places but never did. Thanks man.

Robert Carey decided that the Sierra Nevada town of Truckee, Calif.
where he had a second home would be the spot to open up another restaurant.
Then he thought ‘let’s bring a classic American diner to Truckee.
So he purchased a ’1948 Kullman diner car from Philadelphia.
It took a month in trucking (due to permits) the behemoth to it's present
location and the task of the meticulous 1.2 million restoration.
On Dec. 6, 1995 Andy’s Truckee Diner opened its doors for business.

I have friends that live in Truckee, Ca. and they ask me if I would post this.
By the way my friends tell me the food is great.
So If you find yourself in Truckee, Calif. you might want to check this place out.
