Good chilly morning.
80 degrees working weather and wake up this morning to a dusting of snow. Low 30 all day today. Glad I didn't put any veggies in the garden yet.

Re: Good chilly morning.
I slushed around in the wet ditch today. I extended the culvert next to my driveway. Another 10'. That should make it a little easier to mow in that area. The cold was invited for that job since I have already killed 2 cotton mouths in the last 2 weeks. Thinking the cold may slow them down a bit if I did cross another one.

Got my snakes mixed up. Copperheads not Cottonmouths. Either way I don't like 'em.Reb Stew wrote:I slushed around in the wet ditch today. I extended the culvert next to my driveway. Another 10'. Re: Good chilly morning.
10 years ago you didn't see anything other than a black snake around here. Slowly since these copperheads just keep going up in numbers. I don't even recall the last black snake I have seen. At least you can see a black snake. These copperheads blend in with the ground here. If I have killed two this year I wonder how many I have came close to and not even seen.

Just killed another rattle snake Saturday, I bet I've killed a dozen of those along with two or three cotton mouths. I don't bother the other ones, even though they make me scream like a little girl.....

I've never had a run in with a Rattler. That one would scare the crap out of me.

I remeber my grnadpa use to keep a grubbing hoe in the back of his truck, he hated them so much he would stop along the road and kill them if he saw them!

Re: Good chilly morning.
I use to not go out of my way to kill one. With these copperheads though I'm freaked that the kids are going to run into one. As skinny as my boy is it would do a number on him. If he's over the hill by the time he got to me his heart rate would be so hi it would be pumping through him like crazy.

Re: Good chilly morning.
That is the one spectacular thing I like about NY- No venomous snakes. Unless you count spotted adders. I thought they had gone by the wayside years ago. We had lots of them in the 70's, and through the 80's they seemed to vanish. I saw the first one in years last year, dead in the road, a little over 4 foot long, and a hefty girth to him. A bit scary for size for around here, and their bite will just make you a bit sick for a couple days. Every place has its drawbacks and benefits. Plus, we don't see tornadoes here for years at a time. Just sayin.
