1948 Buick Super

Time to start abuild thread on the Buick (even though I'm pretty far along). If it looks like I am doing things fast, the following pictures took all winter.
Here is how I got the car. Picked it up in Colorado Springs CO. Pretty straight and sound running drivetrain.






First thing I did was make sure everything ran and operated properly. Tuned it up, and Engine runs like a dream. So just a quick detailing.





Time to start tearing into body. First the inside. Took all the interior out and send to upholstery shop.

Floors had no rust at all. So i cleaned and sprayed some rust converter. Covered it all with a coat of Eastwood rubberized rust encapsulator. Was able to salvage all the original floor pads.



Trunk had no rust either. It did have a crude hole cut into floor to access gas tank sender. i made an access cover. Covered with same material as floors (has some dust in picture)

Since the whitwalls I buffed on my Lincoln came out so good i decided to buff the Buicks as well. Also has the flipper caps I am gonna have on car (plan on old school lowered a little running hub caps and wide whites)

You guys find some nice metal out that way. Every thing around here looks like it was double dipped in salt water before they leave it to decay.

Great looking Buick you have there.....what color you doing the inside?

The interior will be cream colored vinyl, with tan velour inserts. Cinnamon carpet. Body will be root beer brown, with Little Daddy Roth Beaver Brown flake on roof. Here is a teaser of color (all interior trim).

A little more progress. Got the door jambs and underside of trunk painted.

Man that color is wild.

Finally got the car painted. Tonight the final clear.




Now comes the task of putting everything back together. Without scratching paint.

WOW. Looks killer.
I have to ask. How much did you spend on that paint? I had an old Caddy that was brown and didn't want to paint the jams to change the cooler. I went back with brown but was shell shocked when I got the price. This has been over 20 years ago. I thought the brown would be cheap but it was higher than reds.

I spent around $700 in materials. from the filler to the clear. I used PPG DBC paint, I got the paint from TCP global. I think it was around 150 for a gallon of paint. The clear was what was the most. 2 gallons with activator around $300

Heck that's not bad at all. I figured it was through the roof by now.

I get jobbers prices through my brothers shop.

Little update on car. Finally took it to the upholstery shop. Should be done soon. Here is latest picture of car.


Should be ready to hit the streets soon.
