Re: Scroungers Gasser Project
We can do what we want. It doesn't have to stay just like there were back then. If we do panels on the body we may even throw some small flames in them. Hard to say right now. Nothing is out the window. Like any build I do myself the car almost speaks to you while you are building it. As the project moves along it will become easier for her to tell you what she needs.

I agree...nothing against flames but I personally prefer lace and/or panels for the build. Just my 2 cents...it's a collective thing for us as members to come together on.Reb Stew wrote:I like flames but you really didn't see them on gassers back then. Doesn't mean we can't do it. It's an idea.

Re: Scroungers Gasser Project
Some more color/design ideas...as you can see I am an Anglia nut. I dig the green with the light gold fade on the fenders. The blue is cool because the hue is nice and it's a color rarely seen on gassers (and the blue windows are cool).
And here is a pic of the Anglia I got to ride down Polar Raceway as a 5 year old. This is before she got a chop top and a WILD paintjob and was named 'The Humpin' Husky'. Was the class record holder in '68 and '69 while in California. An Anglia is the only street rod I'd ever consider seriously owning.

Re: Scroungers Gasser Project
Since this is going to be street driven as well as raced we need to find a gas tank. 2 gal moon tank won't get us far. If we do turn this into a truck we can use one of these cheapo deals. I got this one from MAS. It fit perfect in the bed. MAS has went out of business though. I'm sure someone has these. If we stick with a car we can shove a square 10 Gal. cell in it.

I like it as a 2 door coupe the tires look good sticking out the back but i think the front could come down a coupe inches maybe with a motor in it !

Re: Scroungers Gasser Project
I'm a fan of a coupe with the tires hanging out to, just not sure how we would turn it into a coupe without a donor car for the (BEEP) end. But hey Steve built a car from cowl so I'm sure it can be done.

I'm with you, Chris. I think that without the proper 2-door bodywork t might turn out funny. Hence why I dig just leaving it a 'more-door' or only going to a truck conversion.

P.S. The more I see it the more and more I really like the front end on the '41.

There is a 40 dodge 2 door sedan body at Starks that is probably savable,I should have drug it out of there when I first seen it in the 80s.

Re: Scroungers Gasser Project
It could be done like the blue gasser. I can show everyone at the work session. I have no doubt it could be done and would look right. Biggest issue would not be the doors or roofline. It would be the trunk lid. The trunk runs all the way up the body. While the body we have is a short trunk lid version.
I have no problem doing what everyone wants to do but making it a coupe would mean many more hours of work and fabrication. We wouldn't get it done this summer. Fastest, easiest is a truck body. Second is leaving it a 4 door and then the coupe. Even the 4 door will require a ton of work. Compare bending two bends in bedside and hang some trailer fenders on new metal to sand blasting, priming, body work, prime and paint more than half the body inside and out. Not counting 2 extra door jams, 4 more windows to replace, floors, trunk floor, fixing where the trunk lid is rusting away from it's frame, lower 1/4's and more.
We can do it just matters how much time you guys want to put into working on it. What I worry about is having so much work to do it turns people off.

Re: Scroungers Gasser Project
I went up and picked up some conduit to brace the body when it comes off this frame. If we can get some stuff pulled tomorrow we may try to weld some in.
