A couple of weeks ago my buddy Dave aka "packrat" passed away. He worked with my dad back in the late 60's and early 70's. His only brother called and wanted to know if I could haul some scrap off to the crusher for him. He wanted this old chevy 4x4 hauled off but I had to step in and buy it.

When I got it home the other day I was going to see if I could get it running. So I checked the oil and there was no oil. Checked the radiator for antifreeze and didn't see any in the right tank. Broke out the socket and ratchet to see if it would turn over. Turned about half an inch then stopped. I've got a 76 chevy 1/2 ton that runs really goood so I'll be getting parts from it. The cab on this truck has a lot of rust. Thinking about swapping cabs and hump in the floor pan for the 4x4.

Automatic turbo 350. Decided to use the cab and engine out of my 76 2wd chevy. Started pulling everything.

Finished pulling the engine and trans today. Cab is loose. Only spot I had open was in this building. Anyone need a turbo 350 2wd trans?

No extra transfer case. I was thinking of putting a five speed in but just to buy a transmission will cost as much as getting the factory trans rebuilt plus have to buy an adapter for the t-case. I need a set of good doors. Mine are manual in both trucks. Saved the wiring out of the 2wd.

Anyone interested in the front suspension? I know people use it when converting a 63 up chevy truck to five lug and disc brakes. I'm going to make a trailer out of the bed and frame unless someone wants to buy it.

The 4x4s have a different floor for clearance for the transfer case, found out the hard way by ordering carpet for a 2wd and trying to put it in a 4x4

That was the first thing I looked at when I crawled underneath the 4x4. But the cab has a lot of rust. The 2wd cab needs half a doller size hole in both outside rockers fixed and the cab corners fixed.

Talked to a friend to see if there was any place close that sandblasts and powder coats. Told me to contact Final Finish in Morgantown,ky. Sent them an email last night and received a quote of $600 for sand blasting and powder coating the whole frame.

Cab is off the 2wd truck nto waiting till the ground freezes so I can move the 4x4 and start on it.

That doesn't sound too bad for a sand blast and powder coat.

Finally had a chance to haul the old 4x4 to the other building and start working on it. Crawled underneath and found out the frame is bent in two places. Doesn't surprise me to much. Looks like when dave pulled out of his driveway and hit a car it its side, it shoved the front of the frame on both sides to the left. Looks like it may get parted out. Still had to junk the 2wd out so I haven't wasted much time.

What all do you need? I have a pretty solid cab. Nod good doors or hood.

I was really stuck on getting this up and going. The few good vehicles are going to be auctioned off. 39 chevy truck project, 46 chevy truck project and a numbers matching 64 impala ss project.
