55 Chevrolet Build Thread
So this is not my car, but it's one of my closest friends, some may recognize or know him, Shannon Mason, works at Crone's always hanging out with white/red truck Steve. He's the dude with long hair and the bandanna. Anywho, super nice guy, give ya the shirt off his back. He's ALWAYS working on other peoples stuff, but rarely his. So Steve and I both make a point to help him and work on his stuff. He has a few projects, this 55, which was a driver and was red/white with a huge cowl hood, slammed on draglites for awhile before tearing it apart. A 48 GMC truck, backhalved, orange, suicide doors and awaiting a rebirth as well with a ready to go 454 roller motor. And his 02 2500HD. I'll start with the 55.
First thing after stripping the car of...well....just about everything was to get the rear ready for wheels. It's on a set of 19x8 and 22x10 Intro Vista's. Yes they are the same bolt pattern as my sonoma, and yes I do intend on buying them one day lol. It was time to cut. Now this is not the final spot they will rest. It will tuck a bit less, probably 3/4 of an inch out back here, simply beacuse it pulls the wheels in way to far to clear the rear sheetmetal up top. But it could be in the rear deck (like it is now). The front however will on the ground, hard.
myself, his oldest son Josh and Shannon have been stripping paint..a lot..of...paint...can also see the front control arms in for mockup. the uppers and lowers are in, clearanced for the air suspension. He's ordering a full CPP big brake kit next week so we can get it into a roller after mocking in the rear end, and then getting it narrowed. He also picked up a full on 6.0 LS motor. I've compiled a parts list for that so it can be cleaned up and decluttered of all the crap we wont use. LS3,LS6, BBK or FAST intake manifold will go on it, billet fuel railes, Noonan Race billet valve covers, billet coil pack covers, stainless shorties, full billet serpentine system, cammed, head work, tuned, painted, polished everything, wire tucked yadda yadda.
Misc. stuff. The minichopper he painted for his 2nd oldest son, Austin, gave it to him at FunDome at his Bday party this year. Had a local guy polish it out and rework the motor to get it running, grabbed some material for the seat etc. It's a cool little ride for him. He loved it. Funny story, when I was holding parts so Shannon could buff it, I'm pretty sure that Austin tried coming in the garage like 52875324 times. Finally Shannon locked the door, and it jammed, and we couldnt fawkin open it. HA!
His not so daily driver any more (picked up a cheapo saturn finally)
02 6.0 2500 HD. 7 inch BDS, 3 inch body, and 20x9's with 38 inch Toyo M/T's. These are however the old wheels, he's since gotten machined KMC's after the moto metals started getting shitty looking (warranty score!) Myself, Steve and Shannon did the lift in a day in his garage. Stereo is finally done on it. next is gears and new front bumper and some billet. Eventually it will have more suspension lift and at least 40's on 22's. He wants to graphic it to hell and back as well, along with a wild build on the 6.0

That ol' 55 looks like it may have been an old race car at one time. Any history on the car?

Re: 55 Chevrolet Build Thread
You are correct. It was once a street/strip car before Shannon got ahold of it. it was mini tubbed before we cut everything out to get the 20x10's under there and such as I think eventually he might go for x12's but eh, what the hay right?
Shannon got it when it was back to more of a driver, and had a semi-full interior back in it, at that time it was red/white with the hood, on draglites. Sadly the rear quarters were uberfawked and hidden under the bodywork, which for the price he paid, wasnt a biggy, he just wanted to drive it while his orange 48 was apart. Then got in a standstill with the 48, and sprayed this blue and white with the flames for fun and then realized the extent of what needed to be replaced. So the decision was made to just do it, one more time, the way he wanted now. He's got a ton of pics from the 80's till when he got it and then until now. I'll get those scanned and posted up

Re: 55 Chevrolet Build Thread
i cant wait to get more hands on it this coming week. I've got to strip the hood. We're going to get it a roller so he can take it to at least one show and lay it out in bare metal or sealed (preferbly sealed lol). I am trying to get him to have it aired up a bit and push him around "cruising" so he can make vroom vroom sounds LMAO.
once he gets the brakes, and we get the front end assembled, then the rear will be next and once thats ironed out it can be put back on the ground until we take the body off to fully do both aspects. finally
