Exhaust Manifold
You know I said I was having some dozer work done. Yesterday I was spreading seed before it rained and found this fossil.
At first I thought it was some wierd SBC but the bolt holes on the end ports are offset from a straight line with the middle ones. I couldn't find a mnfr's logo cast in it anywhere. It's going to be a wall hanger but was wondering if any one knows what it came from.

Re: Exhaust Manifold
Early Pontiac and Stude both use end stag patterns with a center that is 2 into 1 But both of those the end stag is the other way. I'm not sure on this one.

Re: Exhaust Manifold
It does not look like a early Olds V8 and can be a early caddy OHV.

Re: Exhaust Manifold
I cleaned it up some more before I hung it on the wall. Did find some numbers on the back but no logo. Oh well, it will be a good conversation piece. There's no telling how long it has been buried out there. I was bushhogging last year and went over a spot I had been over three times a year for ten years and hit something. Got off the tractor to check and it was a complete straight axle, hubs control arms and all. There could be anything buried out here.

Re: Exhaust Manifold
What was the property before you got it? Could there have been an old junk yard or garage there at one time?

Re: Exhaust Manifold
It's always been a farm. Before i bought it though somebody "cleaned it up". That means they hired a bull dozer to push the crap up in a pile and bury it. Then it spends the next few years coming to the surface. I didn't see it beforehand, so I don't know what's there.

Time to get a metal detector and see what you can find.

Re: Exhaust Manifold
Looks like one for a Studebake 259 C.I. to me. I believe it's a lefthand side. I have a picture of one, but no idea how to post it.

Re: Exhaust Manifold
I thought so too at first but looking at the pics the stagger is the wrong way on the end ports unless I'm looking at it wrong. Here some stude's from ebay. To me the stagger is flipped the wrong way on the end bolt holes. Maybe I''m looking at the dirt or something.

Re: Exhaust Manifold
I looked around trying to figure this one out. It's got me stumped. I'd wouldn't mind seeing a cleaned up pic just to see if the bolt pattern is what I think it is.

OK. It will probably be Thursday though. Trying to work and help the wife get ready for Thanksgiving. I'm pretty sure whatever it came from, it's pretty small caliber. The runners are awful small for a deep breathing engine.

Re: Exhaust Manifold
Looking at the center ports make me think it's a small Mopar. I'm not 100% but that's my guess. I'll look for some pics on the net when I get time tonight to make sure. I don't recall the end ports to know for sure.
Re: Exhaust Manifold
318, 360 ect Dodge truck. Trucks had the center dump if this web site is right.

Re: Exhaust Manifold
Could be a 273 or an early Poly 318. If I remember right they could use or make Hemi heads fit a early Poly 318. SB. Mopars that the exhaust would fit would be 273-318-360
Re: Exhaust Manifold
Just looked. Ditch what I said about it being a poly 318. The exhaust ports was not the same on those. So it's either 273,318 or 360

I think we have a winner.

Re: Exhaust Manifold
Absolutely a winner. Lots of work for a wall hanger. But, if anyone asks if I know where to get one, I got it.

Re: Exhaust Manifold
Late 60s and newer AMCs had similar manifolds but have not found any pics of them.
