Re: Aryan's 1979 Firebird ~ The Fire Chicken
I'd love to find out who use to own it. The car only has 53K miles on it so it's been babied. Problem is I think someone at one time wanted to do a Smokey and the Bandit jump into a football field. All 4 springs were busted when we got the car. You can see where the car looked like it was jumped and landed. The rocker all the way at the bottom is pushed up as well as the back floor, core support, cowl area where the bottom of the fender bolts to it and more. I also seen where the axle tube is leaking from the center section and 1 u bolt on left side was broke and one u bolt and a T bolt was broke on the right. I have seen U bolts break but never one of these T bolts. Seems funny the rest of the car is not that bad but the bottom is rough. No rust just dings and dents. I was really rough on mine years ago and had all 4 tires seeing air a few times. I can only wonder if some kid was having a blast with this thing when mommy would let him drive it. Like I said the car only has 53K miles and the front springs were so busted up we could not drive it when he got it. Something happened.

Re: Aryan's 1979 Firebird ~ The Fire Chicken
If any F body guys do a spring swap watch the Moog rubber. They didn't fit the spring eyes. I even stuck them in the old springs to check and they where too small. I haven't called Summit Racing yet but either they sent me the wrong rubber or moog messed up. I had to use the old rubber at the back. It wasn't in that bad of shape so I may leave it unless I go with an aluminum bushing like I have in mine.

Dang...now that is TIGHT!!!! Love it! Best part of the picture though for me is seeing both 'birds sitting next to one another. Truly a father/son pic. As it should be.

Leave it...don't mess with a nice subtle rake like it has. I always like to let things like this sit and either it grows on me or not. But that's just me.

Put a couple of bags of mortar mix in the trunk and take some "after" photos and then we can vote..... (O:

Springs are stiff. It was empty so I filled the tank. It sat the same. lol
To me growing up it looked like most stock bodies had a drop in the back more than a forward rake. Maybe not.

That's because 2nd Gens are known for weak-*** springs out back. Give 'em a few years and they all had what I affectionately called '2nd Gen sag'.

My 79 had a forward rake to it. It only started to sag right before i sold it. I really miss it, even though it was a dog off the line.

Re: Aryan's 1979 Firebird ~ The Fire Chicken
I would drop the rear a little more or try a tire with more sidewall. The rear fenderwell gap is pretty noticeable in comparison to the front. It pulls my eyes right to it, but that's one of those things I always notice. Makes me picky about it on my cars...
