Woodward Dream Cruise 2011 (Aug 20th)

We will be doing a long haul run to Detroit MI to cruise with 1000's of other hot rodders on Woodward Ave.
If you have never heard of Woodward Ave you are missing a great deal of history in hot rodding. Woodward was the place for cruising, hanging out, street racing and more. People would come from 100's of miles around. No matter what you drove muscle cars, sports cars, hot rods, sleds you could cruise and have plenty of people with the same type car/truck. If you were fast and had something to prove this is where you went. Not only was it built street cars but full blown race cars. The big 3 auto makers were involved too.
When the 60's mucsle cars came out where do you think they tested them? Woodward Ave in the cover of dark. Racing other street cars as well as Factory v/s factory such as Ford, Chevy and Chrysler. Off branch of GM was testing the waters with their GTO. Pontiac Vs Chrysler, Ford ect ect. It got so competitive that people like Jim Wagner from Pontiac hired well known street racers to race their factory test cars. Chrysler was a force to be recon with back then on Woodward. They had a lot of cars they tested there. Some of the Mopars having decals on the cars saying:These vehicles are intended to use in supervised acceleration trials and other competitive events, therefore, they will be sold without warranty. Chevy, Ford and Chrysler all had something to prove and it started right on Woodward. Aluminum fenders, Swiss cheese frames, cut outs and more. SOHC, boss, Wedge and Hemi Engines all laid the rubber down.
There is so much history of cruising and racing I would say it would be the number one spot in the US that had an influence on hot rodding, cruising and street racing in the 50's 60's and 70's. Even bigger than what they did out in So Cal.
This has been 2 years trying to get everyone on board to make this run. 2011 it will happen.

Lived by there when I was 15-16 years old, 1978-1979 I used to drive my 69 Impala 396 up and down there, got my stereo at Mickey Shore Car Stereo, it is one heck of a good time...

I hope everyone gets to go.....i know im goin for sure this year.....ive talked about it the last three years but something always comes up....i think it will be a blast

I'm going but I will be staying the night some place I think. Still have a little time to figure it all out. I don't think you could get a hotel in town anyway. May be easier to stop on the way back and crash out. Get up the next day and take it easy coming back. Maybe take in some sites.

I don't know. One day is maybe better than nothing, but that might be about like kissing your sister. It's a multi-day event with different stuff each day. I doubt I'll go because I can't handle big crowds any more.

At least in the two videos you posted... there's not to many cars from the 20's through the 50's

Unless they have changed it Ken it is a one day event. I would leave here like at 4am to get there around 9am. Cruise all day and head back that night. Like i said Turn and Burn
