Over this winter I will be putting a 5 speed and modern rearend in my 37,it still has the original trans and rear end which are no good for highway driving. Along with the trans and rear will be adding a dropped axle with disc brakes and some good shocks and some teflon strips in the springs, the truck is up on stands and I will be removing the trans and rear next week after I get the bracket made to bolt the original emergency brake handle to the 5 speed. I made a pattern for the bracket and its marked on some 3/16th steel that I found,I need to get some kerosene so I can work longer in the garage and move the 55 out so I wont get grinding dust all over it. Tonight I made a bracket to mount the original emergency brake assembly to the 5 speed, its just tacked togather and I need to reinforce it with a couple gussets and find some spacers to go in between the E brake and bracket. I found the perches that have more then one hole to center the rear end and they are on order, while talking to the guy who makes them he told me of some tricks to do to the springs so they will ride better so it looks like I have my work cut out for me this winter.

I got the bracket for the E brake finished and if its not raining thursday night I might start to pull the trans and rear end,I was told some things to lower it more but I got looking and it will be too much trouble to do those things so I am just going to clean up the springs and add teflon. I was told to use the rear hangers for the front spring for the front hangers for the rear springs and it would lower it about a 1 1/2 but the rivet holes wont line up and do it I would have to remove the rear fenders and running boards to redrill the frame and I am not going to do that,if I was just starting to work build it I would do that but not now, It was suggested to reverse the eyes on the springs but that would require some modifications to the hangers and if i screwed them up I dont know where any are locally so thats not going to happen. If it does not rain I will be in the garage thursday after work and it looks like I need to find a cheap garage to put the wagon in for the winter so I can leave the one side of the garage open to work without having to pull a car out every time. The rear end, springs and trans are out so now its time to order parts. I was going to rebuild the original springs but posies has spings that will lower it about 3 inches and all the rest of the spring parts needed so they are getting a call monday. As soon as the rear end is in the next step is to put in a new rear main seal in the motor before I can install the trans,I am going to put new springs on all four corners along with some good shocks and hope it rides better.

The rear springs and hardware have been ordered and I need to get the rear end in the garage so I can clean it up,I was going to order front springs but they did not stock them and wanted about 500 dollars to custom make a set so I will rebuild them myself. I wanted to order a set for the rear since they will lower it about 3 inches and I wont have to use lowering blocks.

Cole..............where were you last night???????

Jeff was bound and determind to move that rearend last night. We were looking at having to carry the thing about an 1/8 mile in the snow, up hill, in the cold and it was dark out. I figured I would have a stroke and Jeff would end up a cripple so we waited for you to carry it, and we waited and we waited and we waited and we waited............ We damn near froze standing out in the snow and cold waiting so eventually we took a couple of tires and rims, bolted them on the rearend, then pulled it by the emergency cables around to the front of the garage. Was a piece of cake. I guess you can carry the narrow 9" out from the back! LOL
