Re: Bread & Butter 27 Ford Project
Both post were finished off.
What was left of the radio hole next to the glove box was welded up and the right side of the dash had some more welding done to it. It's getting close to being done.

Re: Bread & Butter 27 Ford Project
This all metal is suppose to be 2 or 3 times stronger than normal plastic fillers. The way the body is welded up I wasn't for sure how much flex would go through it. Some spots I knew that if I used platic filler(Bondo, ect) that it would sooner or later crack. We will put this All Metal to the test. If it works on here it will work on anything.
I really like this stuff. It's not like working with plastic filler at all. It's made from aluminum powder and resin.

Re: Bread & Butter 27 Ford Project
I used the All Metal around all the welds and spots that I thought may come up with stress cracks. At 30 to 45 bucks a quart it's not cheap but it's worth it. You can top coat it with a plastic filler. I don't use Bondo brand fillers but a nice plastic filler works and is more workable than the cheap stuff.

Re: Bread & Butter 27 Ford Project
I sanded a little of the hi spots off the All Metal and used some plastic, the green stuff to fill in the small stuff and to smooth everything out. There is still alot of filling and sanding to do to get everything smooth but you get the idea.
'
I have a little more welding on the right side of the dash and then I THINK I'm done with all the welding other than the floors.

Re: Bread & Butter 27 Ford Project
I walked out in the garage after my old man nap and there sit a 700R transmission. I was about ready to break into a jig. Jeff brought it by while I was crashed out. This was the biggest problem I had as far as getting parts on such short notice. Jeff really came through. Thanks bro!!
All the welding is done. All metal in all the welded areas. Started laying out some mud tonight. Jimmy and Butch stopped over and helped sand on the body.
Finished up some welding on the engine mounts and called it a night at 6 a.m. I'm not sure if I will be able to hit the garage today. I have some running to do when I wake up and a city meeting tonight. I'm tired and I'm going to bed!

Re: Bread & Butter 27 Ford Project
One step forward, two steps back. I noticed some plastic filler not want to stick to the skins. I figured I had wiped a greasy rag in that spot. After digging it out I found a huge problem. It's my fault I should have looked it over better but I had sprayed WD40 on it to keep it from rusting plus whatever the factory sprays on it. I cleaned up a section myself for the All Metal and it needed some filler to feather out past that. I told Corey to sand it down. Corey didn't get it all off and I didn't check it after he was done. The oils were still on it. I got the stuff off where it was peeling and it may have fine but I got worried that it would come loose. I ended up digging the plastic filler all the way back out. I sanded the skins down. Cleaned them with reducer and sanded again. I spent almost all day chipping and grinding mud and refilling it. I ran out of sand paper around 3:30 a.m. so I called it a night. I have a little more sanding on one side and it's ready for some primer. It will take me a month to get all the bondo dust out of the garage.

It's good to keep a quart of Grease and Wax remover on hand and wipe everything down with it before any sanding or filling or painting.

Re: Bread & Butter 27 Ford Project
Got a little done today. I'm done for now with body work. I want to get it running and a few miles on it. After that I will finsh up the body work and shoot some paint. For now she's running some primer.

Re: Bread & Butter 27 Ford Project
Hoping to get the engine in tomorrow so I can start on the floors and tunnel. Ken dropped off a nice piece of sheet metal. It should be enough to do the floors. Thanks Ken.

Nah. Just sat in it and made vroom vroom sounds.Cratethis wrote:The black looks nice. Did you drive it around the block today??
Amy came out and helped me get the windshield in. It was a 3 man job but we managed. I still need to put the side trim in to fill the gap on the posts but I can bolt that in later.
Aryan helped out tonight too. He's a pretty good shop hand.

Re: Bread & Butter 27 Ford Project
Riggs stopped in and help drop the engine in. It was a pain with the way the car was sitting. Cherry picker wouldn't fit through the front and when we did get everything moved around the jack stand were in the way. We mess around with it for a while and got her in the frame rails.
I still have to make the cross member for the transmission. Hopefully I can get that done tomorrow and start figuring out the steering.
