Re: Wayne Cantrell and his wife killed on I-75
From the news:
A married couple who apparently had finished changing a tire on their vintage vehicle by the side of Interstate 75 were killed Sunday after they were struck by at least one other vehicle, Scott County Sheriff Tony Hampton said.
Timothy Wayne Cantrell, 70, and Susan Cantrell, 63, of Independence were pronounced dead at the scene, Scott County Coroner John Goble said.
A reconstruction team was still at the scene Sunday evening trying to piece together what happened, Hampton said.
But he and Goble said two northbound vehicles, a Ford Taurus and a Chevrolet passenger car, went out of control and off the right side of the road. At least one of those vehicles struck the couple, who were standing behind a red 1939 Dodge. The two were killed instantly, Goble said.
Authorities think the Cantrells had finished changing a tire before they were hit.
"We're kind of being presumptuous, but it appeared there was a jack lying there and a fresh tire that had been put on the car," Hampton said.
The collision happened shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday near the 130 mile marker at the entrance to the northbound weigh scales.
The northbound lanes of I-75 were closed as the accident was investigated. Traffic was diverted off the interstate at Exit 129 and then onto U.S. 25. Northbound traffic could re-enter I-75 at Exit 136 near Sadieville in northern Scott County.

I don't even know what to say. More in shock than anything. (I want to know why these drivers can't see a vehicle off the side of an emergency lane. Sheesh, if they can't drive on a wide lane interstate, take there damn drivers license away from them.)
Prayers going out to family Members.

So sad. Sarah and I were talking about this and both thought the same thing - At least they both died together, and hopefully it was instant. I couldn't imagine going through surviving that when my spouse didn't. Godspeed to them both. Together forever.

From what I have been told it sounds like they where not in the car but standing behind it. I hope they didn't even see it coming and it was hopefully quick. I was told they are having a small private funeral. Seems kind of strange but if that is what the family wants then so be it. He was a member of the Country Cruisers so I am guessing the club may have a benefit cruise or something a little later.
