pleasantly surprised

My oldest son comes in the other day and his brother and I are working on his brothers car. He is not a car guy, but we ask him if he wants to help. He says sure, her changes and comes out to help us. He  jumped right in and starts turning wrenches on whatever we need him to wrench on. Over the next couple of days he comes back out to help us. No big deal right, just a brother pitching in and helping out. Well tonight he comes in from work and starts asking me allot of questions about what we do and what I like in an older car and on and on. Finally he comes to the point, he has the bug and wants to find a project car and if I would help him with it. Wow never saw that one coming because like I said he's never shown an interest in cars especially older  cars. What can I say,  I've infected another one of my children with the sickness and I couldn't be happier!

Very nice. Just the fact of him jumping in there is great. Nothing better than father son work teams.

my Stepson is as bad as I am......Fun to share...just wish he did it at HIS HOUSE....26 years old.....time to go!!!

I agree Reb. Its nice when you get a couple of generations together and work on something . We had pops out there with us too. Nothing better!

That's awesome! I miss those days, from when he was young and until he left for the Army, my oldest son always help in the garage. My middle and youngest son couldn't care less about cars. Oh well, maybe the grandkids will come play with grandpa when they get older.

My grandsons love cars! I corrupt them every chance i get. My wife laughs at me because I'll get Down on the ground and play hot wheels with them. Sounds effects and all.

That's got to be a good feeling, having influenced another young mind like that... given the choices society offers young people today, even tinkering on the newer iron is a far better prospect than what else we have to offer youth today. When you consider many of the things they could engage in will usually land them in jail, or lay cause to the neighbors thinking they are a bunch of derelicts, it doesn't take long to realize that tinkering on a car is far from a bad thing. And if they take the influence of someone and realize the fun an old car can provide, and the stretch of imagination it can bring on, it just became an exercise in creativity too. So those who scratch their heads whenever I drag another old car in, just don't get it. And I don't have a younger generation to pass it along to. Of course, it's tough to raise children when you are still a kid yourself. I didn't feel mature enough to have kids of my own till I was 48- a little late in life to start that activity. People have kids when they are young for a reason, I missed the boat there, but I really enjoy hearing about the kids coming out to the garage, and seeing it happen here locally with the few we have left around that their kids are going out to tinker on stuff. Now with the popularity of trucks, and rat rods, and diesel, and propane, and so many other avenues to play with, it really has gotten to be fun, and an outlet for creativity. What some people come up with these days is just fascinating.

That is really great to hear! It's an awesome feeling to share the passion we have for our rides (and working on them) with our kids. Just today my mom was having her piano tuned (she bought it used recently) and my son came in and was asking all kinds of questions and watching the gent tune it. My son is very inquisitive and I just let him run with it. I also do my best to make sure I explain things to him as we work on things (or if he asks). Us building models together is also a good way to work the minds of little ones.

It's just really cool to hear that he has taken to this (all of a sudden) and that both you and his brother are there to share as a whole the fun in turning wrenches.
