Hey guys/gals. Been searching for a body for my 383 motor and found this '79 Monte Carlo on craigslist. The guy was asking $1500, tried talking him down but he wouldn't budge past $1300. Went and looked at it today, had a 265 in it. Started just fine, ran smooth, said it would drive home no problem. Frame was solid, no rust. Looked to be undercoated at some point. Body needs a bit of work but only one quarter size rust hole. Interior is surprisingly intact. What do you all think? Told him i'd think it over and contact him Wednesday at the latest. I'm leaning towards go for it but im kinda weary at the price, maybe im just being cheap? Laughing

Sounds like a solid price for what he's got IMHO. These cars are getting harder to find that are rust-free and/or not beat all to snot. Personally I prefer the '82-'87 more but to each his own.afro

I like it. Just make sure you double check the back frame rails for rot. They will get so bad the bumper will fall right off.

I think they look good fixed up. Lots of aftermarket parts for that too. I like it.

Had one back in the day. I like the bigger body style Montes myself. Good find.

The only thing I did not like about those years was the cheesy chrome strips on the bumpers that fell off when they were only a few years old,if the frame and floors are nice its probably worth it.

Went ahead and bought her today. What a Face valve stem was apparently bad. Found that out on the drive home. Gonna get it fixed tomorrow and drive it around to see how reliable she is. Engine build is first on the list but color wise im torn. I think it would look good matte or gloss black but i also think an amber color would look good too. Im kinda feeling the blackout look though. Idk. Oh and does anyone want a 267? Laughing

Congrats!!! As for a color pass on black and go with a nice 'root beer' metallic brown with a few well-placed (i.e. subtle) gold accents. Look at Pontiac's Heritage Brown for 1979 as a nice place to start and then go darker from there.
