The Rebel Run 2013
Junkyard Jeff and I headed up to Sidney for the Rebel Run yesterday morning. We had a good breakfast and waited to see if the rain would subside before pointing the old Ford north. There was speculation about the attendance this year because the event was changing it's location again for the umpteenth time and the car count had fallen off slightly in the past few years. We had different reasons to attend, Jeff to meet up with his Crown Victoria buddies and me go on my annual mission to meet up with an old friend that I grew up with. Jeff wasn't quite as successful as I was but a good time was had by all.
Pretty quick grocery getter. Note the scoop above the roofline. It had TWO 671's mounted one on top of the other.
A couple of old friends relaxing.
The 49 - 51 Mercs are what the Rebel run was all about when it started some 34 years ago in Fairmont, IN, the birthplace of James Dean.
The same two still relaxing............

Re: The Rebel Run 2013
The one thing going on was the lawn mower racing exhibition.
These boys with their modified 20hp Kohler engines are scary fast. I guess that's why they have full coverage helmets, neck braces and Hans devices.
While watching these guys, Jeff mentioned that maybe something like this could be in the future for one of the many machines he has in his fleet.
We spent a large amount of time talking to this kid about how he installed the double overhead cam 4.6 in his old Ford. It's equipped with an automatic overdrive and pulls down over 27 MPG out on the highway. He said he's been running the wheels off of it this summer and has logged an impressive amount of miles in a pretty short period. Jeff found out that he has all the original Y-Block stuff with all stick change over parts. Looks like there will be a run to the Cleveland area in the near future.
A somewhat rare Buick wagon. You just don't see these very often.
Saw this sinister looking coupe from a distance and thought immediately of old 1/2 Done. The thing just sets right.
We pigged out on some big Texas Tenderloins and walked around a little longer. Then a lot of the cars started to file out. I guess it was a good day. The sun came out and the weather turned nice in the afternoon, Jeff got a line on his much wanted Y-Block stuff, I got a line on a fairly fresh 250 cid motor for my racer, and I got to spend time with an old friend from home. On the other hand, Jeff didn't get to see his Crown Vic friends and have a meal with them but made some tentative plans for next year, I got the news of the passing of yet another High School friend, we skipped the muffler rapping and the flamethrowing, and the next time I'm in Sidney, I'm going to The Spot for a good old time burger and fries.
