Re: Aussie Junkyards
There appear to be mostly Utes, four doors, and some wagons in the picture. Are two doors hardtops and converts rare for the time period? The pictures are neat but is it possible to a makemor model on some? I know the one looks to be a 56 Ford Customline Victoria fourdoor sedan but could have been badged differently where you are.

Re: Aussie Junkyards
Were Holden's the most popular make in the 40s & 50's? Some of those things have got some interesting side trim that would be neat on an old custom over here. My old neighbor works for Ford and he had some really slick right hand drive Ford he was testing the other summer. It either had Fairmont or Falcon badges but was a new car. It was pretty quick for sure. It didn't look like any of the body panels would interchange with any of the Fords from the US. You must have a fortune in those two cars of yours.

Re: Aussie Junkyards
FalconEddie Holden was the first Australian built car in 1948, most cars in the 40's onwards were British cars and a few American models. In 1960 Ford Australia produced the first Falcon.

Re: Aussie Junkyards
Were the Utes made there? I pretty sure that Willys Ute wasn't made here. Did the US firms have small plants to produce the Utes and a few other models using US parts? I know that Ford used to sent the tooling to other contries when they were done here. I know Junkyard Jeff has talked about wierd Ford stuff that was made in South America not too long ago. That one car in the picture after the Willlys appears to have a lot of the lines of a 50 Mercury but the grille is different, sort of like the Canadian stuff back then. I don't want to be a pest, it's interesting someone to ask these stupid questions. Oh yeah, you don't have that Aussie accent when you type. LOL

Re: Aussie Junkyards
FalconEddie. As I understand it in the 1930s and up until 1941, Australian Willys production was carried out on imported RHD SKD (Semi Knock Down) complete chassis assemblies with full mechanical components, front sheet metal, running boards (where applicable) and rear guards being supplied by Willys Overland Inc. of Toledo, Ohio, U.S.A. to various overseas licensees. Initially and up until the end of 1936, in Australia, this appears to be solely to Holden Motor Bodies Pty.
Regarding my aussie accent I will try when I type (hopefully I can spell).
