56 Caddy
I've always wanted one of these and since I've been selling a couple of tractors, vehicles, and parts the last couple of months I had the chance to pick it up. 56 Cadillac coupe deville with the 365 V8 that purrs like a kitten. Driven to Kentucky from California in 1985 by a gentleman. Parked in a garage until late 2012. Previous owner installed a new gas tank, sending unit and exhaust system. Wheel cylinders and brakes were done. Its super solid with no rust. Excellent interior. I plan on fixing the small things like the brake booster/master cylinder and gaskets. Just drive the snot out of it.

Re: 56 Caddy
Ok, can someone explain to me why such a cool ride would just sit.
Wish I had the money for the Lincoln to help make room.

Re: 56 Caddy
Worked on the car some lately. Found out the speedo cable was broken. Hooked one from a tractor tachometer up and the speedo wouldn't turn. Called Classic Instruments but they only do electronic conversion.Told me to call Bob's Speedometer in Mi. Vent cable which run thru the speedo are frozen. Everything goes thru the speedo which means its going to be a pain. The voltage regulator arrived today and plan on installing it tomorrow.

Re: 56 Caddy
Sounds like a bit of work...are you going to have to send the speedo/cluster off to get it repaired?

Re: 56 Caddy
Pulled the booster/ master cylinder off and order a rebuilt one. Also ordered a rebuilt water pump. Speedometer was shipped off to Bob's speedometer in Howell,MI. It arrived yesterday. Just waiting to put it in. Lady at the eye doctor's office screwed up my glasses so I'm stuck wearing prescription sunglasses 24/7. Might have to wait on putting the speedo in until the glasses get fixed. Kind of hard to see. Trying to firgure out how to by-pass the two heater cores. Car has about 9 heater hoses and a real pain to change a few.

Re: 56 Caddy
Should get the car back from the trans shop any day. They had to send the front part of the converter off and have part where the seal goes cut out and a new one welded back on. I'm just waiting to see how much this is going to run.

Re: 56 Caddy
33 days later and the cadillac is finally back home. Didn't hit the pocket book as bad as I thought. He had to send the torque converter off to get a new hub where the seal sits. Found out that it was broke on the inside, so he had to order a new converter. The guy at the cadiilac shop that I've been buying parts from said I didn't need to take it to a trans shop. All I need was some Trans X.
Plan on getting some tires for it from Coker. L78's. need to decide 3 or 4inch www.

Re: 56 Caddy
The car has 4 inch whites on it now except for the right front which is a spare (3 inch). The tires are square. At 20mph the doors and sunvisors shake real bad. I had one guy say that I only needed to drive the car to get the tires warmed up and they would tru themselfs out. He was drinking when he made that statement.

Re: 56 Caddy
Once they get flat spots they are done. I had a set on my 61 that I thought were going to rattle the body parts off. They looked good but were junk. I bit the big one on what I paid for them. I won't buy used ones again.

Re: 56 Caddy
Thanks steve. My computer was updated and it will not upload pictures on the new system. I have to go to the old one and load them onto photobucket. Going to get a new computer soon since this one is a dinosaur.
