79 camaro for sale,

My sons friend has a 79 camaro for sale. 350, 5 speed. Corvette suspension, body in great shape. Newer paint hugger orange. He said it needs Trans work. He's hard up for cash said he hates to sell it but needs it gone.$2000. I've seen the car wish I had the money. Will update with contact info when I get it.

Can it be driven home or need towed? Try to get some pics Ron.

OK... Checked it out... Managed not to buy it without sleeping on it... Apparently he has someone coming in the morning to look at it, and would not budge from full asking (I do not like to pay full asking - pet peeve)























My Concerns -
Some bondo work clearly visible
The paint is orange peeled
Rust at front pillar
Wiring half complete
Can't start motor to see if it runs
The trans is blown (visibly)
All the trim is off

The suspension looks pretty good, the motor looks good, it seems like a good deal... I am gonna sleep on it and hope the guy in the AM does not get it... If I miss it I will regret not grabbing it, but I have to get some things in order before I can hand over the cash and push the thing out of there.

What are your thoughts?

Just my 2 cents passing at 2 k may save a lot of work. There are many 79 available without motor and with. :-(

You guys are going to let this one ride until I have to go buy it right?

I need to think about getting a new daily before I should get anymore toys. This seems like a decent buy. Would like to see a club member jump on this one. Priority first I guess.

Steve - want to go see it with me and help me take the leap of faith? I slept on it and still think it would not be a horrible deal to pickup - the other guy this morning bailed. I will pm my number, I am off all day and have cash in hand now.

The rest of the issues seem to be overshadowed by my concern about not being able to hear that motor run... What happened to the engine when the trans blew out?

Backup plan - fiberglass hood should sell quick for 250, rims and tires for 250, Suspension would sit for a long time but does have some value I am sure, fiberglass deck for 100, engine, diff, etc... but that's not something I want to mess with, nor do I think I would be more than lucky enough to break even after dealing with craigslist and all that BS.

I'm game. Work it out with them when you want to go and let me know. Really hard to take it all in from the pics. It may be more or less of what one would want. You need to see it in person.
As for parting it you wouldn't get your cash back out of it of it if it ended up a clunker. Maybe 8 or $900.00 if you sit on the stuff a while.

The guy is open, works from home. Now he says if I get over there today he will start it? Yesterday night they did not want to start it....

Turns out - the seller now states the motor is blown, but assumes the trans is good to go.

Sorry about that. Was going on what he told my son. And then told me on phone, I had seen it run before the Trans problem and it ran great. This sucks but better to find it now

No big deal Ron. Keep the sales coming. You never know what someone will like. I liked it but just not $2000.00 worth of like. If Andrew could have pulled it off with 1200 to 1500 it may have been okay. Guy wouldn't budge off 2K

Yeah, 2K for this is a bit rich IMHO. Too many question marks and unless you like everything done by the seller there is plenty that would be changed out.

My uncle got the car out of Besslers and is going to swap the 'vette suspension parts onto his '80 TA along with the 5 speed. Unreal that the entire car wound up in Besslers. Saw it tonight at his garage.
