More drama in the city
I could go on and on about the issues I have had to deal with down here in the West End of Newport. I could write a book!
Just one more thorn stuck in my side before I move.
A kid hit Amy's car with a rock the other day. The kids is like 12 or 13. Amy standing at the window watching as the kid just picks up a rock and pitched it at the car. I went around the corner and got him. I didn't call the cops. I took the kid home to his mom. At first she acted snotty. I got upset and told her I just paid the car off costing me almost $15K. The boy was hiding in the hallway and I made him walk out so I could see him. After a brief talk with the kid I told his mom that I was giving her a break and not making her pay to have it fixed but I had a request. She open her eyes wide and asked what? I told her I'd fix the car but she needed to act like a parent and discipline him for his actions. Just be a parent and teach your kid some respect. Don't let him out running the streets, hanging out with other kids that get into stuff. DO THE RIGHT THING! The look on her face was priceless. She said she would take care of it and yelled at the boys he was with to get out of her yard that he wouldn't be out. I'm not sure what happened if anything to the little boy but it sure felt good to give it to at least one parent that lets their kid run wild.

Re: More drama in the city
Respect is indeed missing from many parts of our society anymore. Such a shame that Amy's car had to be the target for a young boy's ignorance.

My Mrs. works at a high school of around 450, 9-12. It is true that the parents just don't give a hamsters hiney what their kids do, or when they come in or go to bed, or even if they do their schoolwork or not. Their behaviour is a direct result of their fetchin up, from their parents. And we aren't anywhere near a city!

I had to deal with issues with Newport for a while. When it didn't get any better I just pulled my kids out. They are home schooled now and doing great! I should have done it a long time ago.

Home schooling isn't for everyone, and I commend you for doing it. It can, and usually is, very rewarding if the parents take it as seriously as it needs to be. The other challenge is making sure the kids get some socialization too, so they can remain functioning individuals and can be part of a group (read that- employable). It's not easy... if it was everyone would do it. And some shouldn't!

Ya know it is sad to say but any more it is the parents and the kids just learn from what they see..

Down in Bowling Green its like the wild west. Beer delivery guy driving a semi got shot at 7 in the morning. Yesterday an off duty sheriff baliff shot an off duty sheriff deputy after they got into it at a clothing consignment store.

It's hard to soar with eagles when surrounded by turkeys. Here in western NY we got the political corruption, meth labs, and pedophiles, but not the violence.

We have all that plus the violence. It's not as bad as Cincy but bad enough.dieseldr wrote: Here in western NY we got the political corruption, meth labs, and pedophiles, but not the violence.
